Two-tone 83 Rx7?? might have a one-off ?

Ive known for some years now that an rx7 never came out of the factory with more than a single color paint scheme. Ive also done countless research into whether or not a two tone paint job could have been a factory option with the same answers. But when you have an 83 GSL two-tone brown over gold with orange pinstipes that looks original, has overspray in all the right areas, and hasnt been repainted (I can tell due to a few deep scratches and there isnt any other underlying color, save the primer) you begin to think there's more here possibly than everyones telling me. Im still hopeful here but know that it could have been stripped down completely soon after 83. So any knowledge or speculation even will be appreciated!!

man to be quite honost its not in pretty shape and dont have a comp. or digital camera-ill see if i can come up some pics though. I kinda had a head-on with a suburban-honostly its bad but fixable and seeing as i love raare things i'd consider restoring it if it was.

my mechanic has a two tone se. its brown and grey on the top, but the headlights are brown i think.

really?! have you seen it much, is it or does it look original??

A dealer could have done it....possibly...

I've been having the same thoughts ever since I saw a two-tone first gen. It looked completely stock but can't confirm if it came from the factory like this. Can't find the pics anymore :(

83'LE 2 tone
 

Here is a 2 tone.

The one I saw was a bit different than that. The second colour was only below the rubber bumper strip along the side of the car.

A friend of mine use to autocross a 79 or 80, and it was definately two-tone silver and darker grey (kind of gunmetal). I am almost positive it was not a respray (car was pretty beat). Maybe it was unique to Canada?

Cant be restricted to only US and Canada, i know of two here in Scandinavia

On topic, I have seen 1 two-tone rx7, but i beleive it was a postproduction (non-dealer) job.

Still looks sexy as can be though.

I've got 3, but I painted all of them. :)

People also tell me that there was never a plum purple offered in 80(really just a purplish blue). However back in 80 when my father bought his straight from the dealership he was contemplating the color. Two tone is all together possible and by the way looks killer. Maybe the car could have been shipped into the US?

I've seen a 7 with a mariah widebody kit done in the two colours of the top one there. It looks pretty nice :)

Lots of the Series 3's here in Australia were two tone... usally charcol over silver but also some the gold/brown ones too :-)
