turbocharger donor cars for 1st GEN?
 

Can someone list a few possible, fairly common turbocharged cars with the proper size turbo for a 13b 6 port EFI gsl-se engine? Eg - someone said that the turbo's off a mid 80's dodge LeBaron/omni/lancer 2.2L would be too small for a rotary. Thanks.

if you have access to one, i would say go with a turboII

The problem is, the turbos on piston engines are sized all wrong. I've been looking into it myself and the nearest thing to possibly useable that I could find is the turbo from a late model Grand National, the compressor looks like it's fairly close for a mild 12A but you'd still need to get a different exhaust housing, because the stock one is too small... so that $100 turbo now turns into a $300 or so turbo. For that price you might as well hunt for a T2 turbo from partstrader or ebay.

Ask Setzep, I think he wants to sell his twin turbo setup from his Cosmo motor :)

Low boost like those produce probally would be OK, on your N/A motor..

I was personally thinking of using a pair of RHB5 turbos, the exhaust side totally divided (each rotor has its own turbo) but the intake side bowing into a single intercooler. Problem being, they might spool up too quickly and go into surge.

Someone on the single turbo section (Magnus?) said that, generally speaking, if a turbo will make X horsepower on a boinger, then it will make about 2/3 to 3/4 that on a rotary.

You can turbo anything you want, all it takes is a turbo, manifold, oil and water feed/return lines, more fuel, and a lot of work :)

-g00d question about a stock turbo.
I find that if you use a small AR on the exhaust side [13b Streetported] you'll tend to over spool the turbo. Which in turn makes the turbo glow orange and heat soaks everything causing you to actually make less power.
I stated off with a AR of .60 which with a 2.5 inch down pipe.. and extended all they way to the muffler with a HKS 2nd Gen turbo muffler.. [one side of course] spooled very quickly.. <8 psi around 3700rpms> and pulled strong with about 1psi boost creep around 6500rpm. The choice of intercooler was a 89 Conquest.
But.. 2nd 3rd and 4th gear runs.. I tend to rev past the 7000rpm redline.."force of habit" around 7500rpms. The compressor side was flowed at around 700cfm. After a few hard runs.. the turbo started to glow orange.. and the the car felt like it was strugling in 3rd and 4th. I then counsulted a friend with a turboII and was told to use a bigger turbo.. because I was over spooling. I then bolted up a TO4B.. with a .81AR and a 1200cfm Compressor. Now the motor started to build boost around 4800rpm..and pulled strong all the way to 7500rpms. Eventually I went to a 3" downpipe all the way to the rear muffler. At that point..I notice that again the boost curve changed to around 4900 rpms and I had to learn to shift quicker :]
