Turbo II writeup?

I really apologize for making this post, but there have been so many TII posts, that's it's almost impossible to find the info I need....

Are their any writeups for doing a "factory" TII swap into a 12a fb?

trochoid 03-22-07 04:17 PM

Not a good one. We do need a comprehensive guide for this swap and it will most likely take a collaborative effort for a writeup. I plan on documenting mine when I can get the time/finances to do it and there are several others that are in different stages of the swap.

I've been wanting to get one done, but as of yet cannot provide pics or hands on experience. Anyone interested in helping/contributing to a writeup would be appreciated. Then perhaps we can we can have a real thread that shows up in a search instead of little tidbits here and there scattered all over the forum.

Same here, i am waiting for one also. If there is a detailed writeup with pics instead of words then i think i would have swapped a TII already.

I agree, there should be a complete writeup with detailed pics, the question comes up so often its starting to get annoying. However, I don't blame those people for asking, as the information is scarce. One of the best threads (the chronicles thread) is missing a lot of its pictures. There also needs to be threads written about all the different ways it can be done, the S4 swap is quite a bit different from the S5 swap, there are many different ways to go about modifying the trans mount etc. I haven't gotton my swap running yet, but once I do i'd certainly like to help with a writeup...

Well, if someone can do research on some existing posts that have alot of the info and provide me with the links. I can merge the threads together and with everyones help I can edit, delete and add whatever info you believe should be in there.

Remember I am on dial up so it takes me alot longer to search for things.

A moderator on dialup?

I am in total agreement with everyone else that there needs to be a thread based on the TII swap. However, how would you do the slight differences in an S4 swap and an S5 swap, or a Cosmo 13B swap? Just tack on the differences in the already made posts? Or just cover one of the swaps, and hope people can figure out the slight differences on their own?

trochoid 03-22-07 09:01 PM

A good swap thread should be broken down into several sections.

1. The basics. Everything that is common to the S4+ swap, to include mounting, parts, fuel system, exhaust, etc.

2. The differences. What needs to be done differently between S4/5/6/Cosmo swaps.

3. Upgrades over stock. This would include turbos, injectors, fmic's and engine management options.

4. Drivetrain upgrades. To include modding the TII tranny along with clutch choices/options and rearend upgrades.

For those of you that currently have a TII swap under way, takes lots of pics, for those that have completed the swap, perhaps you could provide pics for a writeup.

I've been taking lots of pictures as my swap progresses, granted its on hiatus as i'm working far from home right now, but I should be finishing it in May. All of my experiences and pics will be going up on my site www.frosted7.com - its an S4 swap, so stay tuned for that. It won't be a complete writeup, but it will help a lot more, especially with the visuals compared to the info in the archives being tidbits all over the place.

Hey, I heard that! LOL.
Give me a break. I was only supposed to be at this temporary residence for a month.

What I believe alot of members are going to need help in is the wiring process. Not just, lay it in on the right side and hook it up. But how they are going to integrate the main harness into the existing fuse panel for power and all of the other components that go with a stock set up.

Most of the stuff has been covered as far as the basic engine install and what parts from what are needed. That stuff is pretty straight forward.
Some input as to what intercoolers have been used and how they have been mounted. What type of piping,etc......

Agree with the Doc.

The wiring integration is the main one. Otherwise everything should be the same.

I have asked a few people to build the harness, but there is no high demand.

Kevin Landers (Rotary Resurrection) use to modify NA to T2 wiring harnesses.

If I get some type of plug and play like that. All my cars would be fuel injected NA or Fuel injected turbo.

82transam 03-30-07 09:53 AM

I also agree, the wiring is one of the hardest parts to piece together as far as this swap goes. Most of the swap is simply bolting things together, or slightly modifying parts (shifter and trans mount for example) but the wiring requires much more time that many people think. It took me several full days to piece it all together and make it look "factory". I have yet to put power to it, so I'm hoping I got it all right...

there are multable good right ups on this allready in the archives, what needs to be done is making a sticky out of the merged threads. this has been spoke of many times in the past and a couple of times there have been stickys on this because we all got tired of this question being ask every week. alot of the pics are no longer available either they were deleted or nolonger on the net. there is several write ups on the wiring with diagrams also as their own thread in the archives. another problem is the search funtion works so poorly on this site that unless you lucky you have to sift through tons of irevalent threads.
heres one that was a stickie https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...highlight=swap it has links to write ups in it.

I am waiting for one so I can do it to my car too.

Lt. Dan 03-30-07 12:20 PM

I guess I'm lucky... I've got a brand new S4 turboII harness to use....

Dan

82transam 03-30-07 06:57 PM

Are you referring to the harness on the engine itself? You still need to make a harness that goes to the coils, fuel pump relay, main relay etc.

steve84GS TII 03-30-07 11:42 PM

Yea,but thats easy, and will be like new once its made up since its just a few wires and can be built from new wire and wrap.

A BRANDNEW right side harness is a big deal to have a hold of, since they get ravaged by heat over on that side.......good find!
