Turbo II waterpump/housing

Has anyone converted their 1st gen water pump over to a Turbo II water pump and housing.

The main reason I want to do this is because of the weight advantage. And secondly, because my engine will be out so I will be taking the water pump off. And 3rdly, I have access to some TII water pump parts.

I am aware of the extra stud hole located at the driverside of water pump on the '86+ engines. My question is, can that hole be simply be wielded shut or filled with epoxy or some devcon and hold the pump on with the remaining bolts? Then do you think it would work on it?

Thanks

Go for it.

Yes, fill it in. That's what everybody with an REW engine does

if you take the extra hole, and helicoil it, and they seal up the rear side it works fine. if you get an 86-88 water pump housing your 12a tstat cover will bolt right on too

if you try to install the waterpump hsg. on a 12a engine or any pre '86 motor the alternator bracket won't bolt on!!! you have to make a custom bracket, that's what i had to do.... if your motor is '86 and up the swap is easy.... but there all aluminum ..

Are you saying the alternator will hold on the water pump with the spacer, but then the bracket that hooks to the other end of the alternator by the distrubtor is different? Or vise-vursa?

the alternator bolts on on the water pump, but they changed the way the bracket bolts on. on the pre86 pumps they have a short bolt in the water pump housing, on the 86+ they have a long bolt that goes in to engine. i put a helicoil in the 86+ water pump housing and used the early alternator bracket and bolt, it works fine

Yeah, I just compared the two, I see what I need to do.
