Turbo II into my FB
 

Whelp, I have a few questions. I'm new so bare with me.

I found a Turbo II sitting in a junkyard (odds?) How much would I expect to pay for the engine and tranny, and would it be worth my time assuming a complete rebuild is needed. It needs new intake, alternator/ bracket, smog pump, fan, possible wastegate/etc. I don't even know the condition of it.

I know the 13B can be mounted in my car, but will I be able to use my stock 12A transmission? Whats the difference in it than the one in the TII. Will my 12A's differential hold up to the power of a turbo 13B?

I'm wanting to get the engine, and have it street ported, rebuilt, rebuild turbo, and do some other mods such as flywheel, exhaust, upgrade EFI.

I can get the whole car for $800, or $900 to pull the engine + trann + computer. Worth it?

for $800 to $900, i'd say yes. as long as you feel up to the task of doing the conversion you've made a good score in terms of cost.

can the 12A tranny work? yes, but i would not recommend keeping it hooked up to a 13B-T, especially if you plan even more mods. you'll need to have mounts made for the Turbo tranny though - search for the Turbo conversion threads. one of them has pictures ...

which rear end do you have? the open diff or the limited-slip? i'd recommend the LSD ... ultimately, your choice of clutch (and your driving habits) will determine how long the rear will live, just converting to a turbo 13B does not spell doom.

Here's some advice from someone who's been there. These little 13B-T swaps always come out more expensive than what you planned.

Why not turbo/efi the 12A? It would be more unique don't you think?

But if you have your heart set on a 13B, I would'nt recommend a Junkyard motor unless you can start it and check the compression.

Thanks for the replies. I too am a little weary of the engine coming from the beat yard, although it lookeed ok, and they guarantee it:p:

I had a turbo civic a while back so I know all the downfalls of having to "create" something out of nothing.

I thought about turbo charging the 12a, and that would be fine and dandy, but I also want to streetport, and my 12A would probably need a rebuild at the same time. Why not find a 13b and start there, right? Anyway I have some research to do, thanks again
