turbo gsl-se coming soon...have a few questions

recently picked up a turbo 2 setup....fresh rebuild...large streetport....gonna run a haltech stand alone ecu,msd ignition, stage 2 clutch, street tires, stock diff and other goodies BUT stock turbo

my main goal in mind is reliability: to keep it as much as a "daily driver" as it can be and i want it to be fast, but without the whole drag car concept....i want to be able to drive it from oc to la and back everyday IF i have to

now my question is...will i be able to at least beat stock evo's and sti's in a drag with my setup and the stock turbo (possibly modified stock turbo)? im also keeping california law enforcement in mind so im trying to keep it as quiet as possible but at the same time, just fast enough to beat evo's and sti's

Does anybody out there have a setup like the one im trying to explain?

are there any preventative measures i can take to keep my car from blowing up?

any tips and advice is appreciated...thank you

Best hp increase for a basically stock TII is a full 3" exhaust. Since you're running a standalone, you can mod the fuel and boost much easier than going with the little add on bits most of the TIIs use. I also recommend going 720 cc on the primary injectors and 1000-1200 cc on the secondaries. With the exhaust and tuning you should break above 250 hp, perhaps as much as 275 hp. Upgrade the turbo and you can hit 300+

Don't you need to keep all the stock emissions equipment in California to pass?

By the Way, look up STEVE84GSTII's posts. He runs a full S5 TII setup with stock ECU in his widebody FB, and passes California emissions, and mas some mods to push up the HP too.

lol yeah by keeping law enforcement in mind...i meant i dont wanna get pulled over TOO easily..theres no way i can get this car to pass smog at this point...its been ported and i dont have ANY of the TII emissions equipment, nor can i afford to buy all the emissions stuff...i understand that its going to be loud no matter what, so im trying to tone it down as much as i can....but i guess 3" inch all the way back is inevitable....getting pulled over for driving stupid is one thing...but getting pulled over while you're idling at a stoplight just sucks the fun outta everything..no point of having a super cool car if u cant even drive it everyday

i was wondering if i could use the racing beat streetport center section and prima flow muffler....i know this isnt a very good exhaust for horsepower gains, but if it keeps me from gettin pulled over...than i just might try that first...but what im wondering is...just how restrictive is it...any estimates of how much horse i'll be making with that exhaust?..enough to beat evo's and sti's? (nothing wrong with these cars im just trying to compare to modern day horsepower)

Besides law enforcement - don't you have to go through a sniffer and visual inspection every so often?

well by that if you mean we have to pass a smog test every year and turn in papers for the dmv, then yeah, we do....but let's just say i have that part "figured out"...BUT if i get pulled over and the cops look under my hood and i get a reff ticket, then i'm f*cked

luckily to most...underhood inspections are easy for rotaries. Most peeps barely know what a cylinder motor looks like.

As long as you keep it "looking stock" you can say whatever and the cop wont know crap.

Plus it is a 20+ year old car. Come on!

My car surely will never pass smog and I am pretty much bone stock. My only fear is the drive by sniffer. If you pass one of those...then u are screwed.

cant wait to see the project.

Just food for thought,

If you worried about exhaust volume, I can tell you that my FB racer is considerably quieter than my wifes Toyota Poopra. Actually, it's not loud at all.

I run full 3" ehaust with an 18" offset oval flowpro-max muffler

The turbo will make the exhaust quiet to start with, any other mufflers/resonators you add are just extra!

Good Luck

just cover everything with a nice layer of grease/grime and nobody will know the difference
