Use the search, it's been covered many times. You'll need the correct rear counterweight for your engine from an automatic car, an aftermarket TII flywheel to bolt to the counterweight, TII clutch and starter, and a custom driveshaft. You can swap the rear housing from your 12a tranny to keep the shifter location the same, or notch the shifter hole back to fit the TII shifter.

ok i have been around long enough to know (use the search) . i tried and did not find any results where someone put a TII tranny into a 12a - 79sa . now that being said .. why do i need a automatic rear counter weight? and by rear housing . i assume you don't mean bell housing .

^^^ thats because the aftermarket turbo II flywheel bolts up to the auto counterweight.as for the tail shaft being swaped from the sa to tII trans i dont know if thats possible,i always just shorten the shifter aprox 4",and make a custom tranny mount.

You have to use the flywheel that was meant for the year engine (rotating assemby). Use the clutch for the flywheel that is being used. In this case, use the 79-80 flywheel and the 215mm clutch.

This all changes if you use an aftermarket flywheel. Then you have to use the auto counter weight for the engine rotating assebling being used.

two options
option 1
-automatic rear counter weight for your year motor
-aftermarket turbo flywheel to bolt to the counter weight
-turbo clutch,pressure plate and disk
-turbo starter
-custom drive shaft

option 2
-rx4 trans bell housing, take off the turbo bell housing and use the rx4 bell housing
-use existing flywheel
-use the 12a clutch pressure plate, and get custom clutch disk made, splines are bigger on turbo trans.
-rx4 starter, maybe the stock starter will work(non turbo)not really sure
-custom drive shaft

as for your shifter you can do the tranny mod and shorten the shifter about 4" towards the front of the car,or just cut the trans tunnel a few inches back.

did'nt think it was going to be that difficult.

What about tranny mounts

i did'nt think it would be so involved .. i will just use my 4speed in the 79 and save the turbo 2 tranny for my 85 with a monster port 13b i have.

Forgot to mention a custom tranny mount has to be made,IMO the turbo trans is overkill for a 12a unless you are drag racing or have turbo then it's a different story.Just noticed you mention having a bridgeport, the turbo trans would be a nice upgrade for those high rpm shifting.I did this a few years ago on my fb when I did turbo on it.for now you can use the stock trans, once you get to the point of breaking 2 of the stock trans then you know it's time to upgrade to the turbo trans.
