tune engine, turbo, computer - seperate?
 

If you have a turbo and a computer which controls the fuel...no idea how...it may also control the ignition .... can you buy the workshop manual and some tools and tune the engine yourself...when you initially have no idea.... Is tuning the turbo and computer seperate from the actual engine...can i just tune the engine because i heard that the computer and turbo etc requires professionals with experience to do??

Sorry man, you have too much to learn for anyone to reply, I think at the moment you are way too far off to start fiddling under the hood. I want to help but there is too much too teach you so please read all the FAQ's and just basic engine stuff, because at the moment, no offense, but you are talking another language. While everyone here wants to be helpful I doubt atm you will understand what we are talking about and you will have so many questions, too many for us to answer. Its ok, everyone has to start somewhere, so just start trying to pick up the basics, there are alot of helpful things in the FAQ's and all over the net to help you learn about engines, you will pick it up fast, and we will try help where we can.

For now I will try answer your question.

Lets see, firstly the turbo doesnt have any control over fuel, its job in essence is to just feed the engine air. The computer you are talking about controls how much fuel enters your engine through the fuel injectors, this is determined by the computer through calculations done on the many different inputs the computer receives such as throttle position, rpm, air temp, coolant temp, manifold absolute pressure, air flow meters etc. This computer can, depending on the application control the ignition timing aswell. Tuning a fuel injected car requires a computer (usually laptop) and lots of know how, its very complicated and can damage your engine so id say right now you should learn alot more before you attempt it.

It can be done though, dont know what fuel management computer you are running, but depending on that you would need to learn all about it through its manual, and have an in depth understanding of how fuel injection works before going anywhere near this.

Oh and you dont tune the actual engine in the way u are saying, the computer is how you tune the engine, if you have a mechanical distributor which you most likely dont since u have a turbo setup, then you could adjust that, but thats only a small portion of tuning an engine with a mechanical distributor.

Thanks, well no offense taken... I have bought the haynes manual and will start reading that together with the FAQs etc.... yeah I better leave it to the garage for the time being.....
