Transmission Sensor
Hey guys I am wondering what the gold sensor is on my 82 manual transmission? There is a green and a red wire that go to it. Can I get rid of this. Also there is a blue wire in this same spot that apparently isnt going to anything. The only other wire is the black one that goes to the starter solenoid. What does that one do exactly. Thanks

So unplug it and see if your backup lights no longer work. The starter needs a good ground and a good connection to the battery positive and a signal from the start switch. That black wire is one of those. The ground usually runs up to a connection at the left wheel well near the strut tower and then to the battery. The positive goes straight to the battery positive terminal. |
The sensors/switches on the 1985 trans are:
Neutral switch plug 1 = Green/Yellow plug 2 = Yellow/Blue Over Top Switch plug 1 = Blue/White plug 2 = Black Clutch Switch plug 1 connector 1 = Green/Yellow connector 2 = White/Red |
I have a 79 and have several transmissions, some have two extra switches. When I took one apart I discovered that the extra switches were on 4th and 5th gears. I think they were maybe used on california cars that required additional emission controls. Anyway I use them to disable my e fan cause I figure I don't need it at highway speeds.
