Track Tonight, Who Will Win?

Well, I am going to the track later tonight cuz its 2am right now :-P
Any ways, I am going to be on the 1/8th, Denton/Sanger TX with a few friends. I have never ran before so I am a little nervous, he has never ran before either.

Any tips on launch? I have an all stock(except suspension, see sig) and naturally gutted cat 85 GSL-SE, he has an NA basic 90 or 91 Integra.

Hmm...I thought he had more hp around 170..ha, guess I was way off... I should have him beat, unless I got the year wrong...anyways, here is his stats.(edmunds.com)

Curb Weight: 2560 lbs
Horsepower: 130 hp
Torque: 121 ft-lbs.

What do you guys think? Should I take him? What RPM should I launch? Thanks guys, I will also take a vid :)

85rotarypower 08-19-05 02:16 AM

Dump the clutch at around 4000 rpm to get the best launch. You should be able to easily beat him. Equally weighted cars with fairly equal HP and torque ratings. Only thing that will hold the integra back is the fact that its FWD. You should be able to get a better launch than him.

LaRazaUnida 08-19-05 02:17 AM

cool, thanks alot man. Well Im off to bed.

Gregs 08-19-05 02:58 AM

unless you dont launch at all you will whoop his ass, i used to rape teggys all the time in my -se

BlurComet 08-19-05 03:21 AM

Yup, I see no problem here at all, the fact that you also have LSD, although it's not as neccesary in straight line racing. If your tires aren't dry rotted, you shall rue the day!

Edit: Also, make sure you drop the clutch right after the 2nd yellow light comes on. DO NOT wait for the green! Have fun!

actually LDS makes a huge difference in straight line racing vs and open diff, given u have the power you will hook up and essentially go faster off the line that with an open diff, with the mods my car has, i can literally spin the tires in 2nd and kick the rear of the car to the side, if i had an open diff i wouldnt be able to hook 2nd at all

Thanks alot, I was wondering when I start giving it gas and when I drop the clutch. So when I see that second light go, bam Im off? Im excited.

I think you can take him. I had a 90 integra non-weeeteecccc with high comp 10.5:1 pistons, full exhaust, ignition, intake and my friend had a bone stock 86 944 with 38,000miles. I raced him and I just kept up with him, we both had slipping clutches though.

LaRazaUnida 08-19-05 04:19 PM

Well, he has DC Headers, cold air intake(which he just got today), and a 2 /12inch exhaust. Its a 90 NA.

The only thing I forgot to say, I have the cone intake mod which doesnt do much. Still think I will take him or will it be too close to call?

85rotarypower 08-19-05 04:28 PM

That 2 1/2" exhaust is probably hurting his HP more than helping it and headers will only add about 5hp MAX on most engines. I still say its an easy win for you. At most hes probably pushing 140 at the crank.

jays83gsl 08-19-05 04:29 PM

That's close! With the headers, he has a much higher gain over you than he did at first.

LaRazaUnida 08-19-05 04:29 PM

yay! :)
Now as long as I can get that launch down....well Im off to wash n wax my car up.

EDIT: Doh.....well....its all just for fun right...Wait, it isnt just for fun! Maybe I gotta slash his tires.

jays83gsl 08-19-05 04:35 PM

You're making a bet on it? I dunno, maybe you should put a bowling ball in his car :D

z-beater 08-19-05 04:36 PM

Man I used to have a site with almost ever cars 0-60 1/4 mile etc...can't find it now. Good luck!

LoL, heck no there arent any bets! Im no dummy:)
But he is like my little brother and I always look out for him. I used to beat him at everything, but now he beats me at somethings such as FSP, while I beat him at other things such as Bball and Super Smash Bros.
He knows a bit more than me about cars(except when it comes to the 7 :-P)
So its more bragging rights than anything. I'll make sure to post vids.

Yark79 08-19-05 05:45 PM

For good measure you may want to take out your spare tire or any random things lying in your car. Let us know who wins. I ran the 1/8 mile in my stock `79 against my friend's '89 prelude S and he only beat me by my reaction time, if you take out the reaction time my car was faster. I also had a higher speed through the gate. I'd say you've got a good sporting chance.

Gregs 08-19-05 05:50 PM

if you lose, then you either suck at teh drag racing or your cars fucked up, period.

Gregs 08-19-05 06:22 PM

so what, go balls to the wall, shit if you break your shit ill send you a free drivshaft (you pay shipping) but if you lose you get nothing! lol :)

Kentetsu 08-19-05 06:37 PM

Hmm, nobody mentioned tire pressure. I'm no expert, so can someone advise him on what psi to run in the rear tires (like 20psi?)?. :)

you now know that I am going to intentionally lose and take a hammer to my drive shaft after the race dont you?.... ;)

And about the PSI, did not even think about it, any suggestions?

EDIT: He just drove buy with some friends talkin smack, only 4 more hrs!

LaRazaUnida 08-19-05 10:28 PM

Im leaving, wish me luck!

Alak 08-19-05 10:41 PM

Make sure you have no more than 1/2 tank of gas too. He'll probably own you in 1st and maybe 2nd because of the FWD configuration. I owned a prelude with a B20 and I could own 5.0L Mustangs in 1st and some of 2nd.

perfect_circle 08-19-05 11:18 PM

i cant wait

LaRazaUnida 08-20-05 02:27 AM

w00t! I SUCK!! Well anyways, first race....double disqualification! second race, I win with a damn 12, he got 13! HEHE.....4th time he beat me. We kept going back and forth and we both got our launches alot better. All in all I ended up winning with the best times we both had. 11.53 for him and 11.48 for me :)

I seriously think my driveshaft is fking up as well as other stuff. It was HARD AS HELL to shift into second every fning time, and on two occasions when I shifted to third all there was, was a grinding noise, me slowing doing, and then shifting to fourth. Anyways, I sucked, but this made me want my TII swap NOW!

I will post some vids in a few. They had this kick ass camaro running 4.5s that kicked ass. But anyways, yea, I WON!
