Today's Routine Maintenance

Well I've had my RX for ~10 days, I'm slowly working my way through ALL the 30/60k maintenance items. After today the car definitely drives better and is much smoother. I think the warmer temps and Mobil1 75w-90 synthetic in the in the transmission and rear differential made a huge difference.

Pics!

Do spark plug wires have the year of production on them? These look to be the OEM wires. They say Yazaki 1984, if these are really from 1984 then I'm impressed.

I also changed to an OEM air filter today, the old one appeared to be OEM as well, as it had a MADE IN JAPAN stamped in white on the air filter frame.

EDIT:

Also changed to an OEM oil filter. They're pretty cheap when you buy them by the case! :D

Wow. I've never seen a rotor worn down that much.

Yeah.. I have no doubts that this stuff is old. The car has been babied for the last 15 years. It's running great now, idle is spot on and the power output feels as good as new!

That's the first time I've seen a turned pickup in a dizzy cap. That pickup goes to L1, which explains the foul plug and no doubt it runs much better. Plug wires helped a bit too, lol.

No new plug wires yet! Can you believe they're 23+ years old?

Who's got the best deal on Magnecor's? Which model is most applicable to a stock SE?

I finally got the car out for a long drive today. It's definitely smoother, it pulls to redline with no vibration at all. I think Seafoam in the fuel tank is helping as well, as the idle is now spot on @ 800, even when I load the car down w/ A/C and other accessories the idle is very smooth. I'm now very happy with this car, I just need to get the suspension and brakes in the 21st century and it'll be a great little car.
