Todays project - Autopower Rollcage
 

Todays project went quite well, ok so it took a few weeks to sandblast and paint.
I got it used and decided Gunmetal would look good in the grey interior.
And it looks really good, blends real well, even while driving it does not distract.
Bolting it in went well, had to remove about 1" from drivers side and 1/4" from
passenger side, on the bars going forward, it fit when I dry fitted it, who knows.
also they are diffrent sizes since the passenger side has the ECU cover.
When they mean custom fit, they are correct, this is one tight fit, it was
made for this car to a T. drilling and bolting went smoothly.

next comes pads and 4 points :)

I love it. Seen them on Ebay, but afraid of losing too much room. Im 6'2.

Is there suposed to be lock washers on those bolts?

Which kit is this? I know they have like the street kit, race etc

How do you put the FD alternator on? It doesnt bolt right up does it?

9d7gst - I'm 5'7" and clear fine, sometime being short is a good thing. but my helmet hits a bit, new seats will solve this problem. the nuts are nylon.

RotaryRyan - I looks like it should fit dim wise, I got it from SilverRotor in the 2nd gen section, he sold them converted from the serptine belt to a dual belt and includes a plug adapter for charging.

Are there bars for side impact protection? Are they easily removable, so you can install them for track days, and remove for the weekly grind?

Yes there are, if you look at the front and rear floor pix, you can see the mounting point, they just bolt in and out 5min a side I'd say. 4 bolts per side.

Good stuff. I'm currently getting around to installing a bolt in half cage, and you've inspired me to get it done. :)

What sort of things do you do, that requires a cage as comprehensive as that?

S2-13BT - I really don't need a cage, planned to get just the race rollbar. but the cage off eBay was cheaper than just the rollbar. So I've got a rollcage :)
I tried it out for a week or so, just installed it and drove around to see if it was annoying or ok, and I like it. And since its a bolt in, I can remove it, and just use blocking plates to cover the holes, so its pretty reversable.

Any plans for the seats. A cage like that makes stock seats look a little out of place. :D

Yes, I planned to already have them, but its good I waited, as they would of been to wide for the cage door bars. I'm going to go "butt" shopping soon and try some out and get better measurments.

Can they be adapted for swing out or perhaps some sort of pin? I'd think if a pin were made of the same material the bolt was and it was one of those pins with the little spring loaded ball thingy in it it'd be just as strong.

I drove it with them in for about a week, and swing out really would'nt be any better. It wasnt bad getting in and out, Friends thought it odd till they got use to it.

Wow, love the cage, although when I do mine , I want the front pieces to go through the dash, not straight down. I am 6'5" tall, so that will be a factor. I also don't like the bracing behind the drivers side seat, but overall way to go. Looks nice.

Nice looking job on the cage.

Make sure you use some SFI foam padding anywhere your head can reach. If you hit the cage with your head in an accident without a helmet,,,,,you will probably die. Even WITH a helmet, you should have foam on it.

yup Roll cage padding is a must, don't forget the door bars and the front legs too ... arms and legs hitting cages causes damage too.

cage looks nice, you should really have welded some 3mm reinforcing plates inside of the car for the front cage to sit on though (as the MSA require us to do in the UK) The reason behind the welded plates on the floor inside the car is to stop the feet of the cage punching through the floor if you roll it.

We go one step further and continue the plates 1" up the sill to really tie the cage into the car. I admit its overkill if its a road car but if its worth doing a job its worth doing right :)

Was breezing through your neck of the woods probably about 6:30pm on my way back home. (I was kinda red-shifted on the drive south... but I made it to Xenia in only 2hr45min)

You can open the driver's bin..... Passenger's bin though... Uhm..........

Dan is correct, drivers works fine, but the passangers I just ripped the plastic hinge off, I'm thinking dzus fastners maybe. Its just the battery and jack bin so don't really need in there often.
