timing question, not a NOOB, lol

on the later 12a where is the rivet in your e shaft pulley when your motor is at true TDC. Can someone pop the dizzy cap and line up tdc and tell me what position the rivet is at. like 12 o clock or 9 or whatever it is. I just wanna be sure.

no. The rivet is actually in the 7:30 position

wacky I did the check through the REAR rotor to fing "true TDC" it was a link I found while searching. I will find it. It placed mine in the 1:30 position 180 degrees outta whack(sounds famiular). I can just flip it and see what happens. Is it true that it really dosent matter?

Just look at the rotor in the dizzy. Spin it 180°. No difference. Some people occasionally install the dizzy 90° out, which can cause problems.

Later 12As didn't come with rivets. You sure it's a later 12A? What year is it? Maybe the pulley hub was changed during a rebuild.

hey jeff it was rebuilt. I got it back up and running but I am backfiring LOUD.

About how many mm's is it to the right for 10deg adv timing? or inches even???. I tried pal yaws site and I just wanna make sure my mark is right.

I got a locked dizzy at full advance for my turbo setup. I also hook the timing light to the L1 or T1???? just wanna cover all the bases, the NOOB way, LOL

WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO got that biach running

As far as I know, there is only way way to install the above pulley. In addition, you cannot separate them without drilling out the rivet.

saltyslug 07-03-06 11:28 PM

Well I think the backfiring is from the exhaust leak it had at the mani. So I did as much as I could to get it sealed.

I still need to know how much to the right???? the 10deg adv mark is in mm or fraction of a inch. I have the 4.5 inch one. Thanks for all the help. I just don't wanna blow it after all this work. This thing should be a monster at less than 2000lbs(and turbo) :balls:

It was drilled. I got them cleaned and painted. I put it at TDC(at the time) and marked them all together with a file mark and made sure they were even Steven, before it was bolted and I double checked it today and the marks are ok.

It seemed to idle well around 1000rpm but started to pop LOUD at 3000+

thanks again for all the help guys
