Time for brakes!
 

Well I have a fat stack of money right now. Time to complete the second last thing the RX-7 needs before its road worthy. Brakes.

I'm planning on going to www.rockauto.com unless anyone has an objections.

And to be honest with you, I want to go through a complete overhaul. These brakes are the stock ones from 1983, and the car has been sitting since April of 1994.

So obviously, Pads and Rotors... but what else?

I'm about to crack open the factory service manual to give a look to see what else is replaceable. Because if it can be replaced, I might as well, right?

Calipers, wheel bearings, ss brake lines, master cylinder. Check the steel brake lines for corrosion. Also check the brake cables and lube the clevis pins on them.

How long should the ebrake cable be for an 82 GS with rear drums? There are many to chose from on RockAuto.

Definitely get another pair of hands. I would offer my assistance if it weren't a six hour drive. lol

I'm going to be having Peejay or Droptop help me out on this one. Peejay also has an oil cooler I owe him still sitting in my garage.

Should I get the calipers that already have pads installed on them? Rockauto has too many parts to list.

Sound good for a complete overhaul?

If you have drums on the rears then get new wheel cylinders or at least a rebuild kit. They may be hard to find new or rebuilt now, so you may need to rebuild them yourself.

Rockauto has these too. I just ordered some last week.

As long as you are buying new front rotors and calipers, maybe you should consider the swap to the SE units. I haven't slept in a couple of days, but if I'm remembering correctly you can just buy the "loaded" caliper (make sure it comes with the mounting bracket), discs, and pads.

Another thing, if you are changing the rotors you might want to grab new wheel bearings and seals.

Hopefully someone who is firing on all cylinders will pipe up and let you know if any of this is correct.
