TII shifter tube mod problem!!!!!!
 
Damnit! The place I took my t2 shifter rod and tube to for the modification messed up the shifter tube! The rod looks good and that's the important part. They didn't weld the tube back together straight and there is some rubbing as the rod slides through. Sloppy welds too. My question is:

A: Can you buy the shifter tube new from Mazda?

B: Is the T2 shifter tube and FB shifter Tube the same? I seem to remember them being the exact same length and having the same rubbers on the ends when I held them next to eachother but need confirmation.

Ok, I visited http://www.iluvmyrx7.com and after searching the parts fische I have confirmed that the tube (they call it a cover rod) that I need is the same for the fb or T2 which is great news for me!

The part number is M501-17-490B

I will check the price with mazda and see if a new one is worth it or if I just pull one from the yard.

I also found the # if you wanted to use a new roll pin, it's 9922-20-525

And that pesty spring that always breaks in the shifter box area M501-17-465B

It's not worth it. The guy said let him know if there was any problems but what's that gonna do? I don't want a new one done there since they do bad work so I'm just gonna go somewhere else. The shifter rod itself looks great.

That tube is thin,its likely the metal warped when they welded it.
On mine,I just cut the tube down as needed and connected the 2 halves with a piece of heater hose and clamps.Theres no pressure and little, if any oil in there. All you really need to do is cover up the shaft and prevent dirt from entering the tranny.

Yup, that's exactly what I think happened, that's what it looked like. I can't really see yours in the picture but I think I know what you mean. You don't have any problems like that? That piece doesn't have to be rigid? I have thought about JB WELDing it to eliminate the heat from the process. Think that will work?

That tube serves no purpose except to keep dirt out and to encase the shaft.It doesnt have to be ridgid,just continuous and sealed.
I wouldnt use JB weld simply because of the vibration and lack of accessibility.Ive been running the rubber hose coupler for almost 4 years and its never leaked a drop or had any shifting issues whatsoever.
