Throw out bearing
 

Ok so I have an 81' and its old engine was seazed up and just sat for 6 years so i took out the old engine and tranny and such cleaned the tranny then got a new engine from the junkyard, the clutch on the new engine is still good, but I was wondering if I should still use the old throw out bearing for the engine? or get a new one and install it now since i have it taken apart already? thanks thats all for now!

I would check the pilot bearing and grease it if its still good. I wouldnt re-use the throw out bearing unless I was confident that it was in good condition, same for the clutch itself.

Well, let's think this through. How many hours is it going to take to drop the exhaust, then the transmission, to replace a bad throw out bearing.. Let's say 8 hours.. Is that 8 hours of your time worth the 10 bucks or so that it costs for a new throw out bearing..

Yeah, while the tranny is out, just replace everything that you can. It is not worth $10 bucks to have to do it twice. Good luck.

Spend the extra bucks and get a turboII throw out bearing, they fit our FB just fine.

It is one hour to pull the trans. But yea get a throw out bearing and do the pilot bearing while you are working on everthing. Pilot bearing is $7

Man, I must take too many smoke breaks.. I've never gotten my tranny out and back in in two hours..

One hour to have it out, One to put it back. The in between is the hard part. I always seem to break at least one Exheast Bolt and have to drill it out. but I generaly take that as an opertounty to replace the cat with a straight pipe.

I usually have the whole thing done in 1 hour........unless I take the time to cut the flywheel that's about 15-20 minutes more.
but then again........I work in a tranny shop.

Thanks guys, I decided to get a new one, then uhmm I got a new clutch from a friend of mine at clutch works. A place down town.. uhm its a racing clutch only stage one and such.. but yeah thats about all thanks!
