Thought my car was stored, it was in the yard!
 

When my rex laid down a couple of years ago I took it to my uncles house to be stored in his warehouse garage. Well as youve seen me post numerous times regarding my "perfect" Rx7 that simply needed the apex seals replaced (rebuild) Oh let me tell you the horrible feeling I got when I went to pick her up (as I am about to have the work done). I foud out that he shortly after pushed the car outside and coverd her with a blue tarp and there she sat for almost two years. I am so upset about this I cant spit! thank God it still has no dents, scratches, of RUST amen. However, he did remove the front bumper cover (so the tarp would fit?) and the molding on the passenger door is missing. I took several pics but they are too large to post.
I have decided to completely restore her however I am still deciding whether to tune her up or just stay bone stock. I guess I am so dissappointed that Im not sure if shes worth it anymore to try to keep it stock for value purposes.

She looks cherry to me. If she isn't dented or rusted, I would definately consider to continue on with your restoration. Just, now that she has been sitting outside, be sure to check the fender wells/storage bins, and spare tire well along with the rest of the underbody of the car for any signs of rust.

Side molding shouldn't be too hard to get ahold of, and an engine rebuild will get you right back on the road looking fantastic.

Just be glad that there wasn't any previous rust before it was left to sit out.

I'd also ask WTF parts were removed, that sounds fishy to me!

check the underbody carefully for anything that is startig to rust and take care of it right away.

You should be able to get the side molding at a junkyard, if not put a request out on this forum.

When we got the car on the flatbed, I checked over the car thouroughly and I pleased that there is no rust! having said that, the suggestion to check the storage bin area sound like a good idea.
I have tentative plans to send the car to a shop in the area, he's got a great facility but the dude seemed a little bit edgy. So, if anyone has reccomendations as to a good mechanic in the philly area, Im all ears!

Definitely restore, drop in say a ported 13B :-) After driving it the first time, you will know you made the right decision :P

i know i did... loving my street ported 6 port with holley carb, and loving the fact my last tank averaged 19 mpg between city and highway;)

Keep her stock. And kick your uncle.

Has your ported 13b been abducted by aliens and recieved secret alterations using mutilated cattle anus and redneck anal probes? More to the point - have either your right foot or your testicles been surgically removed? Perhaps super-secret agents have broken into your tach and used lipstick to revise your redline to 2100 rpm! - because that's the only way a ported 13b is gonna get 19 mpg!!!!!!!

It's an SE and a very nice original one at that. Restore to showroom condition, but keep it stock at all costs. It will be worth 10 to 15K sometime in the next decade if you do--- but far less down the road if you don't, no matter how much you manage to boost performance.

Non-SE 1st gens in decent shape can be had in very good condition for a measily 2K. If you MUST mod a first gen, pick up one of those and go to town. My choice would be a mildly-boosted single turbo 20B with a T-II transmission and Ford 9" diff, 2nd gen steering and SE suspension/ brake swap. It would be the ultimate sleeper, looking mostly stock on the outside except for the 16" aftermarket rims. The cost to build would exceed the car's value, but I wouldn't care because it wouldn't be for sale--- ever. :cool:

I purchased the car brand new and still have all the books and records, window sticker, even the reciepts for EVERY oil change. After all of the positive response i think i should in fact keep it stock. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to post.
I would love to do the work myself but dont have the space and free time is hard to come by. I will be doing research as to shops that can do the work and am open to input.

Doesnt look like anything a bit of elbow grease cant fix. I got some side moldings around here somewhere if you need any.

still looks in good condition...another thing that I would check would be struts and such sitting un-used is the hardest thing on any cars suspension...

Wish my car was stored for 5 years(before I bought it), instead, sat for 5 in the fl sun with only faulty fuel pump cut relay, now she's mine, and getting some tlc.

Keeping mine stock. I figure by the time my son gets ahold of it and wrecks it (he just turned 8) it might be worth some money.

naa don't keep it stock. that's how the 1st gen get bagged on for being slow ass cars. keep original body styling, but upgrade w/ a better motor :) one good example is directfreak's turbo FB.

well lets see, 194 miles on the odometer, 10.2 gallons of gas... i've been tracking it very closely, did a lot of highway driving that fillup... the last fillup before it was 16...

Always keep a more or less complete -SE stock and intact. They are worth an easy $2K more at this point in time than a similar FB. That margin is only going to improve.

Or don't keep it stock, and improve that margin for all the other stock -SE owners. Aviator is correct: buy a cheap FB if you must mod something.

Before the weekend I checked on the pricing for a street ported 13b, The car blew the rear Apex Seal so it needs the rebuild. But hell, im getting priced for R&R from $2000 - $3500. Any ideas on how much this SHOULD cost?
By the way, i checked under the storage bins and its perfect! (other than the damn 1,897,456 baby spiders)
From what I can see, other than the needed engine work. It needs the passenger side door molding.
I like the idea of stock for the above written reasons. but I think some gunmetal grey rims would look great! Not sure what kind though.
I have budgeted $5000 to put into the car. Once restored, I will try to keep the miles off of her but she is so much fun to drive. I have been driving a 95 Jetta until I recently bought an Acura RSX Type-S. I would love to see the results of a race between the RSX and the REX.....soon,....very soon.
Probably going to sell the jetta

The RX7 will probably hang if you get into the 15's with the set up you've got, I've stomped them to the ground in my high 14 second Thunderbird.

Still nice cars though.
