Thinking Of A FB

I have never posted in the 1st section before and know nothing about the 12a's. Its really a debate between a FB and a TSI and i am a die hard rotary fan as you probably know. And when i went to the FAQ and started looking for performance mods i went to racing beat and they had different engines and stuff for them i had to pick from so are the first gen's engines different or all they 12a?

All are 12a's minus the 84/85 GSL-SE, which are 13b.
GS - 12a rear drums
GSL - 12a rear discs/LSD
GSL-SE - 13b Rear discs/LSD

The 12A carburated engine was standard from 79-85. The 13B fuel injection engine was optional, as a part of the GSL-SE package. Depending on what you are wanting out of a first gen, there are a couple here who would give a third gen a run for it's money. :D

answer these questions:

what do you want the car for? drag? drift? autox? road course? daily driver? daily driver/weekend?

just to clarify, do you have any experience with the rotary engine?

if you have a high goal, whats your budget?

these cars are SOOOO flexible you can do just about whatever you want with them and for relatively cheap.

give us some more info and we can help you out some more.

Definetly go with the fb may take more time money and work but well worth it.

If you are going down the line of modifying an FB you have a few choices as well. I prefer the 12A myself, as I'm not a fan of the six port design in the FC's, and along with the four ports in the 12A it leaves a lot more possibility for all motor port power than the six port design since you can make the ports so much larger.

If you are just looking for a really reliable daily driver, you can't go wrong with a 12A powered FB. Really great cars. Even if you buy it for that now, a TII swap is relatively easy as well if you want the 13B turbo power in the lightest of the three generations.

Yeah sorry guys but im gonna go with the talon because my daily driver truck is dying on me and i needed to borrow the money from my grandparents and as soon as i said rx7 my grandpa was like "HELL NO, you had to many problems with the 2 you had and the one you do have" so i have no choice but to go with the talon but im gonna build it up and trade it or sell it for a FC. The guy is still selling his FB and real cheap to. If someone wants me to keep tabs on it i can.

I hope that's a first gen talon. Otherwise you could be walking into crank walk on 2nd gens :D Good luck with it.

There is nothing mre respectable then owning the first generation of any car, to me its a respect to the car not the style, i own first gen's for the rotary engine and they were the first design of the RX-7.

They are great cars and KENTETSU Even Beat a Lotus at the autocross with a $1,000 first gen.
