Things to look for on a GSL-SE??

I went and took a quick look at a brown w/ red interior first gen the other day. I will have to go back another time when the owner is home to inspect it further.

I need to know what some of the problems to look for would be. Basically what are some quirks to keep an eye out for to possibly make a lower asking price more reasonable. I have hardly ever seen it move, but I do believe it runs. It's technically not for sale, but RX7s in general are just hard to come by so I've gotta think that everything is for sale for the right price :aroused:

I know it is heresy to swap out the soul of the RX7 for a V8 but I plan on doing it anyways... but what would a running first gen 13B w/ manual transmission be worth? If the engines don't go for much maybe I'll just give it to someone that really needs it so at least one more RX7 won't be down

I really don't have anything against the rotary, it's just that the SA/FB cars are just great looking, great handling, and unique platforms. I'm just a V8 guy so a fuel injected 302 with a T5 is the most likely swap candidate. I may drive the rotary around for a short time just to see what it's like. Nothing wrong with trying new things.

Thanks in advance to whoever helps and doesn't jump up my ass about killing something's "soul" :lol2:

edit: just realized this was my first post, I've been a member here just "lurking" for a while, so yeah. I'm Tony.

Welcome to the forum Tony! Look for rust everywhere. Check it good. It depends how much its worth depending on how well it runs, idles, etc. Please keep a rotary in it though.

If you are bent on doing a V8 swap, please do it in any other model except a Se. The se needs to go to a True Rotary enthusiast.

Amen, and an 12A would be cheaper to start with.

Oil Cooler lines leaking, Oil cooler leaking, Loose Shitty Front end, Rust, Look inside storage Bin areas @ inner fender wells common spot Ect.
Have you thought about an LS1 swap or are you Hell bent on Fords?

Yeah, if you are planning on swapping anyways go for a gsl. I am sure that initial cost would be cheaper.

Brown with red interior? I have never seen that color combo...

LS1 would be my favorite choice(I was a Chevy guy before... had an LT1 Camaro), but the 302 is just much more documented and I know what kind of problems to expect.

The fact is first gens are hard as hell to find in the first place. So I don't have much else to look at.

Well the big + with the GSL-SE is the more standard bolt-pattern. I know that the 4x110mm wheels are made in like... 3 different designs. LOL.

I've never seen that color combo either. I'm not sure if I'd keep the brown or not(if + when I get it), but I'll try buffing it out first to see how it looks.

Would give a whole new meaning to "plain brown wrapper" :icon_tup:

The guy doesn't want to part with the car... oh well. On the hunt for another :naughty:

I told him to give me a call whenever the engine blows up and he can't afford to fix it. :rlaugh:
