Temperamental Problems
 

OK, I am about to go out and just kick my damn 7... he runs like absolute crap (as in stalling on turns or accel). Idles crappy (have to hold in choke to keep from dying).

Even idle is day to day... some days it idles at 1100rpm some days 750 (rarely) and some days 400rpm (choke holding day!!! yay!)

What the hell is with this car... I am going to give 10:1 odds it's he carb. Any takers?

Carb/Fuel problem. Ask Sterling or Revhead. The have a VERY good grasp on carbs and Nikkis.

start by rebuilding the carb, it's probabally overdue anyways. change fuel filter. run two tanks of chevron gas with a bottle of gumout concentrated carb fuel system cleaner in it too. upgrade to new k&n air filter. check timing, replace cap and rotor. check resistance in plug wires. when was last time plugs were changed? tuneup. etc. you get the idea.

drivefast7 is right but start off and work your way up

Make sure your throttle linkage is not binding, and is well lubed. Look for vacuum leaks, and tune it up like the above post recommends.
It may not necessarily be the carb, although it is most likely the culprit. Mine alternates between 950 rpm and 550 (stalls at that level) and that is with a new carb.

Any vacuum leaks will be coming from the rats nest though correct? If I rebuilt the carb, and removed the rats nest... I can find out if it's the carb or not... right?

Not necessarily, one of the biggest offenders is the large hose that runs off the back side of the intake manifold. It runs over to a steel hose on the firewall. It eventually terminates at the brake booster. It is known for cracking, sometimes invisible, and creating problems. Also, anywhere around the base of the carb, and the intake manifold where it meets the engine block.

One other thing... that little window on the front of the carb that shows gas in it... it's only like 1/3 full... is that right?

I got my carb rebuilt and it runs SO much better. How many miles are on your's? Mine went to 163k and then I had it rebuilt.
