its amazeing how much money you can save by going to home depot, I had to pass the safty inspection today so I went to home depot and got some cable the same size and some swagers and a swager tool. Total cost = less than 30 buks. How it makes the breaks feel.. like new. You must lift the car high enough so that you can move freely underneath. I had the car about 2 feet in the air, and still strugled. I will let everyone know how long it last as soon as it breaks or slips to far to hold the car. I have done several attemps to anialate the make shift cable. still nothing has gone wrong. I have held the car with this cable up to 3000 RPMs.

Where I live the short cable cost 79 and the others cost 89 each.. I only had to replace the one under the handle, that goes to the driver side rear wheel. It took me all of 30 minutes to put on. BE CAREFULL

Hmm... this sounds like a great permanent fix! ;)

Good job though, considering Mazda replacement e-brake cables run about sixty bucks here.

this is not ment to be a permanent fix.. well if you want a permanent fix you can also have someone weld the ends together.

I still haven't had any 'slippage' or 'looseing' of the cable i replaced a few months ago.

as soon as it drys out.. i'll crawl under and take some pics of the quick fix also pics of the tool and supplies used.

I did a similar fix on my old '82. It held for two years and was still going strong when I sold it.

bumpity i'd like to know more about what cables you used? are they like the high tension stuff they use on sail boats?

Standard hardware store 3/32-1/8" steel cable works fine. Same wire cable used in comealongs.

You broke the brake cable, you did not break the 'break' cable. :)
