TDC with unknown flywheel
2 Attachment(s)
Ok I am trying to find TDC and I dont have a stock flywheel i found some write ups on finding TDC and found them helpful but is there a diffrence on finding TDC with the counterweight from using the aluminuim flywheel or the lightened steel one.
How can I find out which one I have without removing the engine or tranny? here are two pics |
You could remove the front e-shaft hub, making sure to take the necessary precautions, and align the key to 9 o clock and stick the hub on, then stick the pulley on with the timing marks at 12 o clock.

ok what are the nessesary precautions? I do have a spare 12a to do a practice run on
|
Mazdatrix has a faq on the matter. I believe its just wedge something against the clutch so its fully depressed for the duration.
This is to prevent the thrust bearings on the front from falling out of place |

Thanks Man

ok so just hold the pedal down with some wood and pull the fron e shaft bolt then line the keyway mark up with 9'oclock and that will be TDC
|
should be close. do you still have the original pulley?
My pulley was 90* off on the hub so if your pulley has timing marks you want the key at 9, the marks at 12 and that will be close to TDC |
