Question Tach not working/how hot is to hot?

Alright just got done swapping in a S5 six port in to my 82, and everything is working good BUT the tach. Any ideas on what to check, and whats it fixes. It worked with the old motor, and nothing really changed that should have made it not work swapping motors.

I know the thermostat starts opening at 180 and is fully open at 210. Is it ok for it to run at 210? I know the cooler the better, but will it hurt it at 210? I was testing the new electric fans today to see when they would kick on. I went to play with the carb, and when they did kick on I looked at the temp and it had gone to up to 210! (I have a after market gauge/thermostat. Temp sender is in the back of the block where the stock one used to be) The fans (two 10in fans stock 2 core brass rad) are set to kick on at 185 and shut off at 175 or so the box said. Block temp will drop from 210 as soon as the fans come on she will drop to about 190 or so? When driving she stays about 180.

As for the heating problem, it was a bad temp sender/gauge. I replaced it with a mechanical set up, and everything is working fine! Was kind of freaking out. Sorry guys.

But I still have no tachometer? The coil tested good and everything seems to be hooked up?
