Swapping a 85 GSL-SE rear-end into a 83 GS...any issues?

All,

Just a quick question...I am currently starting a project to rebuild my 83 GS and want to put a 85 GSL-SE rear-end in place of the stock unit for obvious reasons...disc brakes, gearing, and LSD (the GSL-SE had a LSD correct?). Now besides the connection to the driveshaft, are their any other concerns I should look out for, i.e., brakes, struts/springs, watts linkage, etc...?

Thanks!

The GSL rearend would be better.... or else you're gonna hafta find the front suspension to match. The bolt pattern is 4x114.3mm on the -SE, but the GSL is the 4x110mm that your GS has now.

thanks!...you just saved me a few stress lines on my forehead...already have my aftermarket wheels for the 4x110mm hubs....

You'll have to find a 83-85 GSL rear axle to do the swap, as the SE third member won't bolt onto your current axle, nor can you swap the axles to keep your bolt pattern. All GSL models after '80 had the LSD and rear disc brakes, but you'll want to get the 83-85 because on the '83 model, the driveshaft was changed.
