Sunroof Seal

On my 1984 Mazda RX7 GSL, the sunroof doesn't leak water or anything inside of the car, but for anyone with a first generation you'd know that the space where the sunroof rests it collects water in those galleries, is there like a seal I'm missing to stop this pool of water in the galleries from washing it or the rain?

On each of the rear corners of the sunroof indentation you'll find a hole which is attached to plastic hose which runs down the inside of the headliner and over to the air vent ports just behind the B-pillar. Sometimes these get dust and debris stuck in them and refuse to drain - in which case you get water pooling in the sunroof channel, which is inviting rust and paint corrosion.

Years ago I found that you can run a coathanger wire down the hole and through the plastic pipe, but be VERY CAREFUL as if you go at it too much and puncture the pipe you're going to have sunroof drains that work, but drain inside the passenger compartment.

Go easy and I'll bet you can clear those out without any further problems. Same story with the drain holes at the rear of the car around the lift glass - those can get clogged and they plastic pipes drain out under the rear rocker panels.

Thanks man! I will do this after it stops raining.

It worked! I ended up flushing the lines with water and compressed air and they drain great now. My two front lines run down behind the two front wheels, my left rear drains in front of my back wheels, and the right rear drains out of the vent by the rear window, should the rear drains be running BOTH through the vents?

There are 4 drains: 2 for the sunroof which exit at the air vents on the B-pillars (left and right side), and 2 for the rear hatch, which exit under the rear bumper (left and right side). If yours is draining somewhere else, I'd look into that - because you don't want it draining INSIDE the car! Good luck,
