strange chirping/whistle noise from weber

ok so i recently did a transplant into my 83, the motor is a 4 port 13b with a weber 45 DCOE and RB wrap around mani.

i did not dissasemble anything, i left it all bolted up during the swap, but in the new car at every RPM there is a loud chirping/whistle coming from the weber. it is not belt squeal but sounds similar.

it ran just fine in the other car.

any ideas?

What gaskets did you use? If you used paper or cork gaskets they will swell/crack, causing a whistling noise.

i did not dissasemble anything during the swap except for the header so i didn't need gaskets

but the block to intake mani gasket looks like cardboard... i did not install so not sure. i will replace. thanks.

No problem. Whenever I got that gasket from mazda, it was blue, if that helps.

I had a gasket I made for my OER that was out of cork. After a few days of driving, it would whistle a bit. Found out the gaskets were cork and gave me all the problems.

im pretty sure it's homemade stuff. definitly not a mazda gasket.

Definitely sounds like you've got a vacuum leak somewhere. The 45 DCOE I'm using came off a motor on which the o-rings in the phenolic spacers got messed up and caused a leak. I removed them and made carb-to-manifold gaskets out of thermostat gaskets. Worked pretty well until I got some real ones.

Whistling does sound like it could be a gasket. If the phenolic spacers have a groove for the o-rings, then you definitely need to replace them with new o-rings. I use Hylomar to hold the new o-rings in place, (square peg, round hole), since fresh round o-rings tend to pop out of the not so round groove in the phenolic spacer.

if its a new weber, check the casting flash in the bores. I have a 34/34 here that looks like it was cast by third grades, whistles like a mofo.

well it only started doing it after putting the engine in a defferent car so i wouldn't see how the casting flash would be a problem now.

i'll have a look anyway.
