stp gas treatment
 

I have an 84 gsl-se w/ 85k miles, I only drive the car about once a month, otherwise its in storage (clean and covered to keep her showroom).

I have been using stp gas treatment to keep the gas from varnishing is this bad ? I heard from cjf that it would not be a good idea. While I say I drive it once a month, its located outta state and I usually get back only once a month and while I'm there i take it out for a good long high reving jaunt. ( at least an hour). it may sit longer as time passes.

what should I do?

Whatever you do, don't stop driving her that once a month!

If you can't manage to drive it more, that's okay, but I've seen firsthand what sitting cars can end up looking like. Mine sat for five years.. and while the body and interior are still almost showroom condition (except some paint scratches... ) all the mechanicals went to shit.

You should put clean gas in the tank two or three times a year. Just take the car and drive it more than an hour if you can, or leave it sit running 'til it's almost empty. Then drive it to the service station, get a half tank of the good stuff, and repeat. STP gas treatment isn't bad... but old gas is old gas. I'd suggest using a gas additive which is designed as a carb/fuel injector cleaner in the gas because when the car sits, the gas that remains in the carburetor starts to varnish and that can gum up the carb pretty bad. So at least with the carb cleaner, when you drive the car you'll clean that crap out. You might even be able to use it along with STP.

Def keep driving the car as often as you can. Make sure the engine gets a healthy dose of revs in order to keep carbon deposits out of the motor. As for gas treatments, I'm not sure how effective they are. I am not currently using any.

would MMO be in order to help with the carbon deposits or would that be badfor him mmmkay

I've put a quart MMO in with the oil last time i changed it (before i put it in storage) now when I start it up, it doesnt blow blue smoke (it would before when it sat a week or so). I figure The gas treatment would prevent varnishing and gunk build up. would MMO in the gas tank be better?

Im not sure about stp. I use amsoil gas treatment.
