Friends car was stolen from Gwatney Collision on Markham in Little Rock between the hours of 6pm Monday and Tuesday (today) morning. Thanks for any help, car had liability only and Gwatney is claiming no liability for the theft.

Time for a lawyer. Just because the shop disclaims liability does not mean they don't have liability to take due diligent care of customers' property.

I'll keep an eye out for it. The sad part is that a lot of the stolen cars from our area are being taken to Texas.

Not true. We have notices in the office of our shop that we are not responsible for thefts, fire, or break-ins of vehicles left on our premises overnight. Most of out policies have been discussed with a lawyer and have legal precedent. Granted we have an alarm and lock all vehicles inside our buildings.

I'm back and forth from Conway to Little Rock everyday. I'll keep and eye pealed for you!

Everybody needs to keep an eye out on their local CL ads for parts coming off this car. What year was it?

Looking at Google Maps there is a traffic surveillance cam at the corner of W. markham rd and N. Shacklford Rd. this is just down the street from the collision center and also the turn to get on the interstate. It would be my guess that the thieves got onto the interstate to get out of the area quickly.
I bet if you looked at the video from that traffic cam for the date/timeframe in question you could probably see the crooks turning off of Markham St onto the interstate. It would give you a great front shot of the vehicle and possibly a front plate.

Also there is a US Bank directly across from the entrance to the collision center. I am sure they have a security cam towards the from entrance of the bank or ATM. While it would not show as far back into the shopping center as the collision center is, it might show the culprits when they pulled out of there and onto Markham a mere 20 yards away and directly in front of the bank.

There is also a traffic cam pointing down Markham toward the collision center at the intersection of Bowman & Markham. So, if the crooks egressed via Markham St you should have them at one or the other.
I would ask the poice to review the cam footage and you will probably find your culprit.

Damn fine work Wahootee

The shop is responsible for safe keeping a vehicle entrusted to their care. I suspect that the real problem is that if your friend sues he is only going to recover blue book value on the car unless he can demonstrate that it is worth more. If he only had the car insured for liability I'm guessing that it he may have trouble proving it was worth more.

Thanks. All he needs to do is act on it now. 3 cameras - 1 ought to have caught something.

Thanks for the help/tips guys! Sounds like a Florida gang made its way through Little Rock last week and the car may have been part of there crime spree.

jgrewe 08-30-14 09:12 PM

I'll keep an eye out down here in Fla.

ShawnMua 09-01-14 09:51 AM

engine? year? turbo?

the more info the better, ill keep an eye out here.

wahootee 09-01-14 01:08 PM

Did they drive it off or did they use a trailer/repo truck etc... Need more info on specifics like ShawnMua said. The more information the better.
RIght now we don't know the year, or anything else.
Pics of the engine maybe so we can be on the lookout for a CL ad for engine parts etc..
Give us more to work with.

kevinbtz 09-01-14 08:15 PM

No broken glass around the area, so probably a trailer/repo. Its a 85 with a 48mm Deloroto and full exhaust. It is a 13b 6 port with a half bridge, sounds radical but still got 18mpg. Engine bay was clean and has an ignition amp and a FD leading coil. Still had A/C and stock fan. Has a perfect brown interior with freshly redone seats. Has a dent on the rear passenger quarter panel (why it was at Gwatney) The owner has contacted a lawyer that is going to take the case, it is probably a lost cause at this point but still would like to see some justice.

Thanks for the help,
Kevin
