Stock Temperature gauge
 

soo... who here still relies on the stock temperature gauge?? i'm not so sure if the reading i'm picking up is accurate since it's always below the middle point. i'm not sure whether it's actually working or it's really fooling me. one thing's for sure though is that i've never overheated once. i'm just really curious since i will get an aftermarket gauge down the line to see if it matters at all for our cars.

FYI,
i'm redline's water wetter, 1/4 cup of oil, and 40% coolant/60% water in the radiator. also have manual e-fan.

I still use my stock temp gauge. I have an SA, but I doubt it makes a difference. The temp usually stays around 1/4 of the way up, but almost never gets past 1/3 up, and if it does, I turn of the A/C and it goes back down. I plan on adding water wetter this week before I go on a little road trip.

so yours is above the middle point?

actually speaking of which, i've heard bad stuff about water wetter in long term uses. i'm not entirely sure which, but it has something to do with electrolytes.

NO, mine doesn't get above the middle point. Maybe SA gauges are different than FB's, but 1/3 and 1/4 are both less than half (middle).

I've done so much and still get 3/4 the way on the gauge. Replaced everything that has to do with the cooling system and nothing works. So now I think my stock FB gauge is wrong.

I had the rad boiled and cleaned. Replaced the stock thermostat with a 160 degree. I never go above 1/4, even when running 120+

that makes me feel so much better!!!

I thought there was something wrong with my gauge or something, because it barely gets up to 1/4. Replaced the radiator, thermostat, and temp. sensor, and it didn't do anything. (i have an SA by the way)

you should have invested on a mechnaical water temp gauge first. that would have save you $$ and headache.

sorry to jump in here and change the subject a little, but i am actually tearing out my gauge cluster entirely, and having a custom one made with 4 x 2" gauges, and one 4" tachometer. question is...
im shopping around for gauges, and have pretty much decided on "spw" gauges, they're nice looking, and decent price, but what aobut the readings....would typical gauges work for the 7, or do we need a higher range temperature gauge since we run hotter? what about oil pressure, temp....and water temp. anyone have experience with this?

i see that most autometer gauges offer different readings with alot of their products, but not the ones i want.....also, i assume i'd want to go with all electrical gauges, not mechanical right? (for cost, and ease of install and use)...

the cheapest one, as in $$, are the eqquus (I have to check my car for the right spelling) and the Sumit brand (except its not a full sweep). For less than $50, you can have a triple gauge set and they work as good as the autometer, stewart-warner etc etc. Stay away from sunpro, autogage brand as they are inaccurate. The t-coupler is not sealed; therefore, it collects additional heat from the engine bay.

my LS usually gets a little under a quarter up the stock gague with the a/c on. never any problems. my SE gets to alomst half and with a full tank of gas, i am right at half for some weird reason. no overheating though.

Mine was always at 1/4 to 1/3 until yesterday, when it got to almost the top. I'd never heard the sound of an engine boiling until then...
