Sterling Carburetors Dennis Williams took my $410 in 2008 and still owes me a carb.

Regardless of his prior unquestionable benefit to the community, those are the facts.

Is there anyone else that this happened to that I am not already aware of? Please pm me and we can go off forum to discuss legal action. Thank you.

Not affected or involved in this issue in any way but want to bring up a statute of limitations issue. You're talking about a civil wrong that occurred about 7 years ago. Statute of limitations varies state by state and a verbal versus written (email counts) contract can effect the time as well. I would suggest you check as to what the statute of limitations are in your state and seek legal advice if you're still within them. A civil (small claims) lawsuit will be your recourse.

Just let it go...

What's up with the trend of people waiting FOREVER to respond to disputes?

7 years?!?

DivinDriver 08-01-15 12:55 AM

Isn't there a specific sub-forum for this type of posting?

Well, I can see all this statutes of limitations stuff, but we're all friends here and we hate to jump on each other's case unless it's really necessary.

Sometimes a little time is a good thing.

The situation, as I see it, is that there's been a bunch of reports of people ordering Sterling carbs, paying big bucks up front, then nothing happens.

No carb, no refund. Even after 7 years.

7 is a magical number for us rotor heads, of course. So I think the Rotary Gods are telling us it's time to do something about it.

If Dennis or one of his friends has an explanation, it sure would be good to hear about it now, so we can get this thing done with.

If not, well, I'd be pissed too.

I think Sterling's friend Carl hasn't been on the forum since Dec 4th last year. So he's a dead end. I hope I don't mean that literally.

NCross 08-02-15 08:15 AM

Luckily my Sterling was second hand :)

DreamInRotary 08-02-15 11:26 AM

I'll be very curious to see what comes of this.

Probably nothing will come of it. It's been seven years. Statute of limitations. Let it go.

Having said that, I've been helping folks duped by that CobraStngSVT guy who ruined a bunch of carbs for $400 as well (not me, that's how much he charged). It seems $400 is the going rate for a modded Nikki, regardless of the quality of work performed. I think because Sterling laid the ground work, it was easy for a self promoting carb wrecker like SVT to come in riding on Sterling's coat tails. I highly doubt any of SVT's carbs worked at all.

Toward the end none of Sterling's carbs worked either. He stopped test driving his carbs! Can you believe it? That is why his later carbs didn't work right. Or he skipped several steps during the build process and shipped a crap quality product. Or in other words Sterling ruined a bunch of carbs as well. His first carbs weren't like that. Then in the end he just stopped shipping carbs all together. How can that be good for anyone? He claimed it was due to several reasons, but no business survives the way Sterling ran his.

I think the thread starter's only hope is to find another provider of modded Nikkis that will actually deliver, for less total cost due to his hardship. Is there anyone out there right now modding Nikkis that might fit that profile? I wonder if wankel=awesome is up for the challenge? His carb turned out awesome! And he did mention something along the lines of what I just said.

Not sure War Stories here help the OP move forward, but I sent Carl my NOS Nikki about 4 yrs back. He turned it around quickly, even ported the included 79 Intake mani I sent along for fitment. I doddled about on the install, contacted him last year, to which he promptly replied to my Qs.

Just wanted to throw some balance into the discussion. Sorry for the grief.

If I was retired I would probably be into doing this as a small service just to fund my car habit. Once
you have one under your belt its pretty easy. Plus all the good stuff we now know about tuning them, hats off to Jeff on that.

Kind of funny: " it was easy for a self promoting carb wrecker like SVT to come in riding on Sterling's coat tails."
I wouldn't call Sterling a carb wrecker, but that's exactly what he did. He rode in on Paul Yaw's work and set up shop modding carbs.

NCross 08-04-15 02:31 PM

Bottom line... get over it. If everyone that used Paypal to pay would have just filed a dispute you wouldnt be in here bitching 7 years later.

I had a Sterling carb and was very pleased with it. As for anyone else... oh well. Get over it.

Mods... close this thread.
