Stating Issue!
Hey, just got the car, here's the issue: Car starts right up when cold, but doesn't want to when at operating temp. The engine turns over, but won't fire, very odd. Took it to a mechanics shop and he seems to think it has somthing to do w/ the starter. BTW it's not the battery or alternator. I know this is not too much info, but the 85 rx-7 are pretty simple. What do you guys think??

If the motor is turning over fine, then the issue is not your starter. I would recommend that you check your timing, if it is off a bit then it can lead to hard hot starts.

Thanks, that's what I/ the mechanic thought too

check compression too, i've heard that hard hot starts can be caused by low compression
|
I thought that cold starting problems were from low comp, since they build up some compression when they warm up. I also assumed that this is why they (FSM) tell you to check compression when engine is at normal operating temperature.

Could be your side seal springs are worn out causing low compression which is causing it to have hard starts.

I had the same exact problem last year -
i changed the fuel filter - and that fixed the problem. |
Really?? Fuel filter huh? Why would this be, just wondering and thanks for everyones input. About the compression, my brother (Goodfellafd3s) just bought a mazda compression tester for rotaries, so I'll be able to tell.

whenever I buy a car, no matter what, I always replace the fuel filter, plugs/wires/cap&rotor, oil and filter. it may be the fuel filter, but that isn't always the case. sounds to me like timing or low compression like stated above
