Static timing a 12A

I've got a 12A motor out of an '85 in my race car, and need to static time it before I start it up, to make sure it's ok. We know how to time it once it's running, using the timing light, but want to make sure the distributor isn't 180 off, or whatever amount off it can be.

okturn it to the timing mark. then pull the dist. when its out there is a mark on the housing of the dist and a demple on the gear.... line them up and drop it in . your timed to stock specs

one more tip.

On the Timing pulley theres 2 timing marks. if u still have the color on the pullies, u should have a yellow mark and a red mark. aling the timing cover stem with the yellow mark. that is your leading notch on the pulley, after that take your distrubor and aling the circle notch on the lower gear with the mark on the distrubor housing, then while holding the rotor in place ,slide the distrubor in. After the distrubor is in, the indicator(that little arrow) in the rotor should be facing toward your trailing 1 spark plug.. take care.
