!! Starting problems !!
I just rebuilt a 12a for my 83 rx7, I had it started (after the rebuild),but now I can't get it to start again, it just turns over and floods lol :) , well anyway here are some problems I either think i might have or really do have.
• first I have gas dripping out of my exhaust system when i have been trying to start it. http://img455.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gas9cg.png • It did this once but i have yet to see it again the two bigger barrels in the carb filled up with gas but i tightend some bolts and i think it fixed that. http://img459.imageshack.us/my.php?image=carb5bo.png • My starter seems like it pulls too hard, or "drags" kinda and runs down the battery pretty fast too, I'm takeing in tommorw to see if its messed up er not. When I got the car it started fine, but then starter went bad and i bought a new one, when i was replacing it I found that not all the wireing was hooked up, there should be a pic of my starter if I did it right labled A,B and C I was wondering if someone could tell me what they all are. http://img459.imageshack.us/my.php?image=starter0di.png • Last thing I don't if its crucial to starting toe car or not , but what is this part and what does it do http://img495.imageshack.us/my.php?image=thing7co.png ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Btw Thanks everyone for helping me out here , I want to get her on the road again ;) |
i got the mazda workshop manual right here wooot for me ok the (B) black plug is you switch power for the starter (c) is where the pos cable goes if im readind this right
the last image you have is the HOT start assist system gas coming out the exhaust was from it being flooded very very bad...sounds like you have a carb problem and its just flooding you motor every time and not alowing it to start but i could be very wrong get i would get a nice side draft to go on it also i would check your oil motors that have flooded very bad can sometimes get gas in the oil i wuld hate for you to get your motor running just to blow it up |
If it is a carb problem, what do you think is wrong with the carb ? do i need to rebuild it ?

Check the float windows on the front and back of the carb, the level should be half way up the windows. When you flood a rotary that badly, you will need to cycle the gas out of the housings, clean and dry your plugs and add an oz. of motor oil down each of the primary barrel of the carb. The oil will help rebuild the compression lost from the raw fuel washing out the housings.
If the barrels of the carb are filling up, either the floats are sticking/bad or the needles are not seating to shut off the fuel flow to the fuel bowls. |
