Starter issues
 

Hi all, so i have a 79 LE with an 85 12a/dizzy in my car. just recently i have not been getting spark, but that's not why im here. my starter seems to be kaput. i just get a click when i try to turn it over, just 1 single click :/

i pulled the starter, tested it, pops out and spins fine ( i tested in about 4 times). put it back in, brand new battery mind you and fully charged, nothing just a click. i tested with a volt meter the battery and Starter where the battery wires connect to the starter and they all read the same. im confused AF.

some people are saying run a second ground just to be sure? otherwise im lost

Could be the ignition switch which is in the back of the ignition key cylinder. Did you try moving
you key around various ways in the cylinder when turning it? Sometimes it will make the switch
work. I've had/have this issue now. Last time I change the switch when it got too annoying.

Im unsure of the starting system in the rx7s but if it has one try jumping the starter relay with the key in the 'on' position. I'm guessing since it clicks it has a relay rather than just a fuse.

Your starter problem could be the brushes are worn. Sometimes they will make contact and sometimes they won't. What can happen is when you take the starter out the brushes jiggled into place. It is better to replace the brushes on an otherwise reliable starter. Rebuilt starters are a crap shoot. I've had to re-replace starters bought from Autozone, Kragen, and Advance Auto. The one I got from NAPA has so far outlasted the prior three combined.

Solved! Turns out it was the starter... It was working when it wasn't under load :p ah well, replaced with an oem from another 79. Thanks all
Now back to issue #1. No spark :/ sigh. Just started a new thread for it
