stalling problem .. help!!!!!!!!!

1981 rx-7 is running rough when i give it gas .. then it stalls when i push the clutch in coming to a stop.. i have played with the choke and idle but it still stalls. other wise at 2500rpm and higher in gear it runs like a dream.. i have a new battery , alternator.. any ideas?

checked all vacuum hoses , i'm hearing a clicking noise inside the carburetor every few seconds.. out of ideas.. still shuts down at 1800/1900rpm only. clueless.....

My 82 was having pretty much the same problem when I first got it. At first it wouldn't start and I ended up going ahead and rebuilding the carb. Then it still wouldn't want to start on it's own and it wouldn't idle by itself. Adjusting the idle and mixture screws solved it though. Are you sure you've got them adjusted correctly?

i got them set to where the idle speed and throttle response are good. however when i slowly raise rpms once it gets to around 1800 to 2000 it shuts off like the turn of the key

it starts fine and runs fine. just that small window of rpms kills the engine..

Check your timing, if its too far advanced it will result in all the symptoms you discribed.
