Stage 2 Racing Clutch
 

I'm looking into getting one for my 84 GS. Anyone that has one already feel free to recommend a brand or let me know how well yours turned out. Already checked out a few threads but still looking for some more opinions.

If your running a stock set up them a stock (oem) clutch will work just fine. I already used a 6 puck clutch and worked great for everyday use however I didnt use the HP pressure plate. I had a a heavy duty pressure plate from Racing Beat and it took alot of effort after a few miles to keep the release steady. Dont get a "racing" pressure plate as it isnt very fun for a daily driver.

Not sure what brand stage 2 clutch you mean. Stage 2 is kind of a marketing term, every brand has something they call a stage 1, 2, and 3 seems like.

I'm running with a Centerforce Stage 2 clutch/PP with my stockport 12a which has a Delloroto DHLA and headers with tuned exhaust. It works great and handles the extra horses that blew out the stock clutch eventually. Engages smooth and has a really good grip so far. I have about 800 miles on it.

Not to hijack a thread but... WackyRacer, I know I'll need to replace the clutch in my SE once the turbo is on. I'll be around 275 hp.... but I'll be using the car about 99.5% on the street. Any recommendation on a clutch... and do you think the stock pressure plate will suffice? thx...

It wont take long for the stock clutch to slipping. I dotn buy over the counter clutch package since I dont know what Stage I, Stage II or III rating represent as far as pressure plate's stiffness. And most of the time, the partscounter guy knows jack shit.

I recommend dual diapram pressure plate with no less than 2500 lbs and no more than 3000 lbs. Anythign below (single diapram) or above will either be too soft (just like stock and will eventually slip after a few hard runs) or too stiff for stop and go traffic.

If you have a aluminum or lightened steel flywheel, I highly recommend carbon kevlar as it is not too harsh and wont scratch the friction plate. Its a lil bit more expensive but its better than ferodo IMHO. On puck clutches, I prefer 4puck over 6puck.

i got an xtd stage 3 from ebay. was reletively cheap... had everything. and the pressure plate is actually very very easy to push, easier than stock, and definitely easier than my racing beat H/D

If you will be running high horsepower such as 275 like pjr, and even less than that I would imagine, it is probably a good idea to get a performance flywheel along with your new clutch. Also, I believe what I am thinking of is called a scatter shield, but it might be a good purchase also for cars running much higher than stock horsepower numbers. As I understand, it basically protects the driver if the flywheel shatters and keeps the shards from shooting up through the floor into a person's legs or worse. Just a thought.
