Spec-RX Suspension Kit?
 

Hey all, this is my first post on this board and I'm relatively new to Rotaries, my brother builds them and races them though. We're building a 1983 RX-7 GSL right now and I'm doing some research.

We're trying to find a place that sells the Spec-RX suspension kit, back when Spec-RX was big time there was a place to buy the kit from, now that it's not popular, I can only find scattered parts here and there.

Any help would be great, this is what my brother said was in the kit:

Tokico HP Blues Shocks & Struts
TKC or Racing Beat (unsure of which) Coil Springs
Front and Rear Sway Bars
and all the bushings for the suspension.

take a serious look at the re-speed coil over kits. alot more spring rates available. All their products in fact.

Just ordered some stuff from them.

I would but, this is basically my brother's show to run. He wants to get the spec-rx.

Well re-speed still offers alot of those products such as bushings and shocks. something to look into anyways. Billy is great to deal with and he has no problem helping us 1st geners out.

I realize they sell some of the parts, but, we want to get an entire kit. Supposedly there was a place in the past that sold the kit? We don't want to spend the extra dollars to buy everything individual when there was a grouped price that was cheaper if you know what mean. Oh k, sorry didn;t realize it was a proper full kit. I'd never heard of them. Maybe im too young lol

either of these companies have years of Rx7 racing experience and can most likely lead you toward your "kit". As mentioned, not much "kit" stuff available. If the class doesn't allow adjustable collar strut bodies, then you're left with "off the shelf" upgrades like Koni or Tokico shocks with a lowering spring of your choice.

they ran spec7 in the midwest/se, on the west coast we had pro7 which was different. both classes have been kinda dead for a few years though, good luck

Go to Mazdamotorsports.com and get a membership(you will need to race/auto-x any mazda twice in the past year). I remember they sell a Spec 7 suspension kit.

Maybe there is a good reason for this, but what you are doing is searching all over the world looking for K-Mart parts.

Tokico blues are okay.
RB springs are okay. Not great, but okay.

Are you guys trying to fit a specific class for racing? Is it just the "image" of the whole "spec" scene?

As others have said, you can get the parts you've listed just about anywhere. It's just that, for the money, there are now a lot better options out there. I tell you this from first hand experience. I started out with most of that equipment, then later moved up to the Respeed gear. The problem is, if I had just spent a few dollars more when I was starting out, I wouldn't have had to buy everything twice and could have started out using the Respeed equipment right off the bat.

What Respeed is offering works great. I race autocross, and I can really tell the difference since upgrading my suspension. Out of the last 3 races, I have placed
1st in CSP, which is a very tough class to be competetive in. My last race was last Sunday, and the porsches and miatas were seriously hating me. :)

I guess I'm just wondering what your goals are. Either way we'll do what we can to help you out.

IIRC, most of those rule books listed the place to purchase the kits.

If the class is defunct yet you are simply wanting to build the car with the brand names and specs that were given, give us a call. I can work up a package deal on everything you need.

Our first gen rx7 racing experience goes back to the early nineties. Rotary car racing experience goes back earlier than that.

I came across a reference to the kit your looking for on a old SCCA regional web site, but I don't think it has been available since 2000 or 2001. The above sites have all the individual upgrades allowed under SCCA Spec7 rules, which is basically what you listed. I don't know about the rest of the country, but Spec 7 is alive and well in Arizona, and there are even a few Spec 7 cars available for sale in the area. Check out www.azscca.com for more info on the class. All the drivers I talk to swear you get the most bang for your buck in this class and I can't wait to finish my classes and be ready to race next fall.

The spec 7 class is fading, due mostly to the declining number of available cars. The popularity of the spec miata also seems to hurt the spec 7.
It may be fading, but has not gone extinct, yet. This is why few places still offer a complete kit for the suspension.
