Speakers don't work??
 

Well I just installed a new JVC unit and it is working but after rewiring my front speakers they do not work. I have searched but could not find an answer. My rears are not rewired yet so the are unhooked. I have never had this problem before when installing a stereo. The head unit has power and works but nothing from the speakers.:wallbash:

Did you use the wiring harness adapters or cut the harness? What car do you have, because some have the amps under the storage boxes. That may be your problem. The wiring harness is old and You would be better off running new wires from the headunit to the speakers.

Yah, the factory speaker wiring can be a bit wild.
Since the factory stereo is powered by 2 amps in the storage bins, and controlled with the joystick in the console...its prety hard to retain the stock wiring.

Do it right, and run some new higher gauge wiring to the speakers. Its worth it...

The thing is I did rewire my front speakers. I wanted to test out the deck before I rewire the rears. I still get nothing from my front speakers. Head unit works fine but no sound. I took the head unit from my other car so I know that it works. This is the oddest problem that I have faced hooking up a stereo. With power in the head unit the speakers should work. When I hook up the connector to the cd deck I hear can hear the speakers click but that is it.

yeah, the radio might be done if you rewired every thing and you still have no sound.

Well I hooked up the deck back up to my other car and it works. So the deck is not fried. I hooked up the ground before the power anyway so it should not fry the deck. The fuse on the back of the cd player was not blown. I try to hook it back up in the seven and again no sound. I have power in the deck but no sound. I am stumped:Wconfused

ok this is an easy fix. first did u buy the wire harness adapter. ( u can get one at best buys for 20.00) or did u just cut the stock harnest and guess what wires are the speaker wires. second u said u checked the radio and it worked fine (right)????

so are u sure the speakers are not blown ???? best way to check is connect the speakers directly to the radio dont use the stock harness on the car. if the speaker works then its one of two things. either the stock harness has a break in the cable ( but i doubt this because at least one speaker would work)

so im gonna guess that maybe your spliced into the wrong wires.????

it will probubly be easier to connect the speakers with speakerwire direct to the radio and eliminate the cars wiring.

when i did my radio i re wired it completely. worked out better and sounds alot clearier.
and is alot eaiser i think because u know exactlly what should connect to what

Okay, just throwin this out there.....

I just installed a Pioneer head unit i had layin around in my car. Like an idiot, i hooked the front speakers to the head unit to "test" them, and blew both almost immediately. Thing is, my head unit (as most others I would imagine) powers each channel with 40 watts ( actual wattage is like 35 or something, but you get the idea). Turns out the factory speakers are only intended to run at a max of 25 watts or so. Long story short, I replaced them with some 4 inch pioneer speakers for like 40 bucks and was done with it, and I'm sure they sound much better than the 25 year old paper ones..

I'm betting you blew the factory speakers, if indeed the wiring is all run correctly.

Where are you connecting the power wire for the radio? I ran my power wire for the radio from my tail light fuse in the fuse box when i installed my aftermarket radio and it works fine.

Get you two good sets of speakers, nothing you can't afford and it don't have to be a bank to get decent speakers these days. Run your power, memory and ground wires. They are in the harness already, use a test light to find them and then some male spade connects that will plug into the factory harness, wrap them with black tape so they don't wiggle lose. Run new speaker wire directly from the head unit to the corresponding speakers and then you'll have music. Best most effective way to safely and affordably install a new unit. I've done several this way including all of mine. Good luck
