Something I've noticed about being a FB owner...

Before I owned a FB I was knowlegable about mechanics and could work on cars well. After owning 2 FB's you're kinda forced to learn more and better your skills as a mechanic and work on your own car because as it stands nearly no one will work on our cars.

I also encounter on a daily basis people that think my car is running crappy or I have an exhaust leak or it sounds "upset" and I have to just shake my head...

Sometimes I wish I had a clear plastic hood so I don't have to open it to explain the motor all the time :D

Thats always been a thorn in my side, how places will turn down people with rotaries even though 95% of the maintenence work on our cars is totally conventional!Except for actually building the engine block, any certified mechanic should be able to work on them!!

My fav. part about owning a first gen is constantly hearing 40-something-year-olds say,"I had one of those!"
Even if they wrecked, sold or blew it up,everyone that bought one new, helped Mazda to keep the rotors rolling!

yea i see alot of people talk about how they used to have one.

"Uh... It's like two Dorito's stuck on a stick" -Me fruitlessly trying to explain the shape of rotors to my friends

Mine just runs better than those boingers. Go figure.

Actually, it's gotten me out of a few speeding tickets over the years;) "sorry officer, I needed to clear out the carbon in 3rd because it's a rotory. How does a rotary work? Sure I'll explain it. Yeah it is neat. Ok, I'll try and keep it closer to the speed limit next time."
I even had a cop tell me the best road to "clear out the carbon" because there wouldn't be anybody patrolling there.:)

That's a good one... I'll remember that... was that local or OPP?

Bass 04-03-05 08:06 PM

Bass 04-03-05 08:07 PM

OPP. Around Chesley, it's the same thing. ie no town cops

dj55b 04-03-05 09:23 PM

I love the comments I get. Even some of the ricers with "respectable" cars shout out to it. I did meet a few people who bought them new. One guy I work with at my part time job said he had one. I was like cool. Then he told me he dropped a 350 in it, and I wanted to punch him in the eye, twice. I no longer like him.

I like the fact that you can stand next to a brand new sportscar, with 300+ BHP, and still people are more amazed by the fact that my 1.3 litre pushes out half of that!

one night a guy was over at my dads house looking at a car and saw one of my rx7's. dad said he looked over at it and said, yeah i remember you could get those cars from the factory with a ford 390 v8(cause you know ford and mazda are pretty much the same company). i wish i had been there to hear that garbage.

BlackFireRX7 04-05-05 11:00 AM

I swear to god somebody asked me once if it was a diesel!!!

I will admit I had an exhaust leak but I almost died!!

It is a wierd feeling driving a car that I don't completely understand....and I don't like it...thats why I'm here, to learn :)

SAtwentytooslow 04-05-05 12:01 PM

i understand the car...my problem is why it doesnt understand me...whenever im broke there is something that needs fixin...plus im about to rip my hair out finding all the restoration parts i need

web777 04-05-05 01:03 PM

I had one guy try to talk to me while I was driving. We were doing this for 2-3 miles before we pulled in a parking lot. (this is very unusual in Los Angeles without either one of us getting shot!)

I worked on my car so much, I can be a full time mechanic if I wanted.

diabolical1 04-05-05 03:07 PM
