I'm interested in this. I've spent some time looking into different racks and possible mounting configurations but never took the plunge and bought parts. Are you going to reveal it in about a month or have it available for purchase by then?

It all is a matter of what side of the rack the pinion is on;top or bottom. Turn the steering wheel to the right on a front steer rack, the steering arms move out to the right side. On a rear steer rack the same steering input moves the arms to the left.

Why not make the car a front steer with FC spindles(and brakes!)

Beware of bump steer what ever you do.

best thing for FB's...

take a power steer rack from a power steer SE and take off the power steering. Has great road feel and isn't hard to turn. Granted does take more than with but its not bad and doesn't have any play like the manual racks. I hated my manual rack in my 1st fb. Had about 2 inches of play.

^^ The only problem with this statement is that the GSL-SE doesn't use a rack.It is just a powered version of the same old steering box like the manual steering cars with a slighly different ratio.I believe the original poster wanted Rack-and-pinion steering not the same old steering box that came with the car.

SE's werent the only 1st gens with power steering,it could be had on GSL's too.
Conversely, not all SE's had power steering either,it was still an option.......
