Size of clutch fan??

Anybody know if the clutch fan outer diameter changed from 79-80 to 81-85 clutch fans.

I'm tryin to see if the SA fan is smaller in diameter then the FB fan cause it would help with fitment on my setup.

As we all know, The SA got the "short" style radiator and the FB got the taller thinner radiator. I'm guessing the fan shroud is smaller which would make fan smaller?? Or maybe the shroud overlaps onto lower FMOC?? I have the "short" style radiator in my car.

Any help on this would be great. I've searched with no luck.

I'm guessing probably not. But worth a shot.

SA people!!! Want to get a measurement of diameter of fan for me?? I'll just measure mine and see if any difference.

lol if you just have hollared I have the SA a S2 and S3 in my stable :)

getting off the puker to get something to eat free to email me at 13x@sincityrotary.com so I measure exackly what you need. Off my head I beleive they are interchangeable

I know you know mickeymouse and he is so dead set against but what about going 2 electric fans wired independently so if one fails the other would work ... redundent but when it's 115 degrees safer is better then sorry

They're the same size. The shroud covers the oil cooler as well. Also, it was only '83-85 that got the tall radiator.

I knew some of the FB years had the short radiator, just forgot which year was the cutoff^^. Thanks for the clarification Percent!

I'm not sure if the FC fans are smaller. I think I have one laying around. I'll find out. I'd have to swap the clutch fan if it did fit cause I know they don't bolt up.

Thanks 13x! Yes, Mickymouse(ray) has been my homie for years. He actually now rocks a sneedspeedshop efan. Very nice quality!

Reason I want to stay with the clutch fan is is provides more CFM than any available efan I can get my hands on, and its hella cheap compared to spending unessecary money on a efan..

FC fan is same size..

the 20B cosmo fan is the big one.

FC fans are a little smaller than FB. I have to use one in the GLC because FB hits the upper rad hose. I swapped the blade part of an FC onto the clutch part of an 81-83. Seems to fit, but just barely.

I'll stay away from that one lol

That what I would like to do

I have a FC clutch fan also and it looks the same size. Im not sure of series though. You know what series you have? S4-S5? Maybe different?

I wonder if the orange 12a turbo fans are the same size as regualar 12as.. hmmm

The extra fan I measured was an extra first gen fan.

That's why it was the same size. I don't have a FC fan :facepalm4:

You are right

Mods can close! Got info I needed.

What about spacing the fan farther out, or the turbo farther out.

Get an FC plastic fan blade and swap it on to your FB clutch. They all aparently interchange. Right now I've got what looks like an 81-83 clutch. It's definitely not an 84-85, as they had a slightly further apart bolt pattern where they connect with the waterpump. It's only a few mm but enough to let you know they're different. I guess you could slot the holes in the aluminum spacer, but that wouldn't work for me because it would move the fan too close to the radiator.

There were three lengths of fan spacers for the early fans: flat stamped steel, medium aluminunm or steel and long aluminum.

Only one length aluminum spacer was used for the 84-85 (unless GSL-SE used a shorter one to account for the longer 13B).

The FC's spacer was built in to the clutch.

So far I've got one of the flat stamped steel spacers which are only like 3mm thick. :D Seems to fit in the GLC. I'll have to test run it to make sure. I'm in the middle of a waterpump swap (going from full FC waterpump to FB aluminum GMB impeller on an FC housing. Light waterpump mod!).

Turbo will be staying where it is. I might still space out FC fan though.

Very nice!! Thanks Jeff!! If I stay with the filter setup I have I definitely will. I ordered a mesh screen though. I'd rather not worry about the fan hitting coupler while in boost, cornering or whatever possiblility. It's kinda too close for comfort.

I'm going to put a small little foam filter inbetween the mesh and make it work. It'll be behind the radiator but oh well...I wont be daily driving her, just for enjoyment few times out of the week.
