Siezed Axle

So i tryd installing my LSD. But ran into a problem, And as the title states its a siezed axle. The passanger side came right out but i pouned on the drivers with a slide puller for a while with no luck. Put a ton of PB blaster and a little heat with no effect. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. BTW its a 83 and if i rember correctly from what i read in other posts its a big bearing rear. Its got the through bolts on the drive shaft to diff. Thanks

83 is a small bearing axle. Always.

The axle is secured by a plate with nuts and bolts. I hope you didnt forget to unbolt them.

There secured by what? Hahaha. Ya i didnt.

You need a larger slide hammer.

no need to spend $$$ on buying or renting a slide hammer. My wacky special axle puller consists of long factory SA lug nuts and a stock rim only. Some people use this combo along with a BFH

Just install your rim inside out backwards (spare tire for those with aftermarket rims) with lug nuts installed half-way in. this will give you enough play. with just a few thugs, the axle should slide out.

I used a 6 ft barbell, with a lug bolt in secured in one end, and just a bolt through the bar at the other end for a stop. Use as many weights as needed, clamped together as one weight.

thats a complete work out homie.

Stevan 04-07-10 12:08 AM

Yeah, a little fab time, works well though.

I dont have a barbell:( Ive used the stock wheel trick but there was not enough to move it.

Bolt a chain to the axle, and something heavy to the other end of the chain.
And be careful.
