Side Draft...

i was just thinking, and i couldnt really find anything in the search. So what are the benefits of having side draft over the normal vertical style. yup.

boost :D

Sidedraft= more torque and easier street driving.
Downdraft(shorter style)= sheer madness of power at top end.
HAHAAHHA
I used a downdraft before and as fun as they are I don't find them realistic for street driving, I am much happier with my sidedraft on my 12a Streetport for daily driving.
Right now im using a Dellorto 48 mm with racing beat manifold.
The weber is also a very good and popular carb.
The weber is available as a sidedraft or as a downdraft.
Waht kind of car and motor are you thinking of swapping carbs on????????

this summer i am planning on getting my other motor rebuilt and bridge ported (its a 12a), and then probably weber carbs with rb mani. and going really fast. and if i can get ahold of some wider wheels and some fender flares, im going to supercharge it. and go really really fast. yeah.

What is the reason for the difference in performance? Is it runner length?

Dan_s_young Mar 12, 2005 03:48 PM

read this thread in the archive... Lots of good stuff over in the archive hint hint people... https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-archive-71/intake-sidedraft-vs-downdraft-143304/

The runner length and the bends. The Lake Cities style is even more radical.

Supper Mar 12, 2005 04:14 PM

URL on the Lake Cities style?

trochoid Mar 12, 2005 04:55 PM

Don't have a URL, sorry, I have seen a few pics here and there, while surfing. I don't know who made them.

For those not familiar with them, they came staight off the block, horizontally, giving the shortest intake runner you could get.

TurboIIGuy Mar 12, 2005 07:25 PM

TWM manifolds also made that style.
Is that the right name??? TWM?? Or is it TCW or something???
Anyway, there was one for sale on ebay about a month ago.
It was for a 12a and the manifold was for 2 thats right 2 weberside draft carbs.
So you would've had a total of 4 throttle bodies on the 12a.
Looked pretty insane.
It was going for $50 when the guy cancelled the auction.
total bummer.

trochoid, I've seen pics before as well, just don't remember where and have been trying to find a decent URL for a while now.

trochoid Mar 13, 2005 01:02 AM

Google for Lake Cities and RX7 or rotary. It may have been one of the bigger suppliers that had them, RB or Atkins, I don't recall. You might check the Aussie forum, I seem to remember a thread about them on there.
