should it idle this high?

Aloha- Just putting the finishing touches on my"almost everything new 83" project, and I'm having trouble setting idle speed to the recommended 800rpm's, been reading search and archives (learned alot), but now I'm wondering if I really have a problem or not. So this is the scoops, rebuilt 12a stock port, RB headers& exhaust, RB Holley intake kit, RB lighten flywheel,Holley red fuel pump, smaller double altenator pulley, zero emission or vacuum lines(other than crankcase breather and power brake lines), so anyway I've been trying to lower idle to 800rpms. from a steady 1600, but now I'm not so sure I want to cuz', it idles fine(although high), start and stops are cleaner, no stumbles or bogs. But I have a light throttle surge, stumble at 3000rpms and at shut down a small "uncle buck" backfire. So all in all I quess this might be the nature of the beast, for this kind of set-up? Comment's? Thanks- Buffalo

you need some fine tuning on your holley, it should idle at 900 rpm's no problem, ..are you setting the load srews ? the idle screw is located on the carb body near the linkage
