Shock/Spring question
 

I've got an 84 GS with newly installed Racing Beat Springs and Tokico blues, that I bought from Mazdatrix a couple of years ago. The car handles well but there is a distinctive rake with the car sitting up a bit in the rear. Is this normal? If not what could cause this? Nothing else in the suspension has been replaced...yea I know I should have it re-bushed, new tie rod ends, etc. Thanks in advance.

Assuming that the springs are properly mounted in their perches. I believe that tokico blues are equivelent to the Kyb Gas a just? (correct me if i'm wrong guys). If so and your old shock was like the Gr2's which are a lower pressure shock the rearend will sit alittle higher.

The tokico blues are non-adjustable. Your thinking of the tokico illuminas.

Have you taken anything out of the rear? I stripped out the rear interior, and hammered out the sound deadening and the car has an obvious rake.

No I haven't done anything to the rear end.

There is a definate nose down stance when using the RB springs/Tokico shocks on my SA as well.

It seems to be settling a bit. Also it could seem exaggerated because I'm used to seeing the car sit on 20 year old springs/shocks.

Probably you had wornout springs, like my 83 and SE. But my 85GSL only has 80k miles and the rear sits higher.

These cars sat a little higher in the rear when new, and most aftermarket springs have a staggered drop to them. After installing the new springs, the tire/fender gap is a little smaller, and the difference is more noticable. Of course, if the old springs were really wore out, the new springs will actually make the car sit higher.

Make sure that all of the old bushings were removed when the new rear shocks were installed. Sometimes one of those bushings will stick up in there, and the new shock will install fine but leave you with a higher ride height than desired. This happened to me with the front struts a couple of weeks ago. :(
