Shifter trim/drain holes bottom of back window?
 

The rubber boot on the shifter is loose from the silver trim piece that it connects into. There are small prongs on the bottom of the trim, and holes in the rubber boot, however you cannot connect all of them without removing the trim piece. I pulled on it some, but did not want to break anything. Does this piece snap in? How do I remove so I can secure the rubber boot to it?



Also, it appears there are two drain holes to get rid of the water that collects at the bottom of the back window, I took a small screw driver and poked in there and came out with dirty grime. Can I take a chothes hanger or something and push on thru there to clean them out??

The front of the shifter trim hooks on to the console, the back snaps down. I forgot how I removed it, but the back has to be released first, then the whole thing swings up and comes out. The boot is held on by metal clips that go on the plastic pegs, those usually break.

Clothes hanger works for the drain holes.

^Hook two fingers under the rear (of car) of the shifter trim and pull up. It will snap out. There are supposed to be small metal clips that slip over the pins to hold the boot in place. If your pins are broken a rag or foam rubber can be wrapped around the shifter under the boot to hold it in place.

Those drain holes and the 4 under the sunroof need to be checked regularly. Compressed air works well also. The rear drain holes connect to tubes that exit just in front of the rear bumper on each side. Sunroof drains exit inside the vent behind the side windows.

Before proddingwith the coathanger, look under the rear bumper left and right and make sure you see the tubing exitting from the body... otherwise unplugging the tube will dump any trapped muck into the bottom of the fender interiors.

& be careful not to poke a hole in the old vinyl tubes.

Thanks again....I will check those things out. I bet my clips are shot since I dont see or feel them anywhere.

ON the drains, I will check on the tubes prior to trying to clean them out. Thanks for the info about the ones on the sunroof, did not know it had any.

You can also replace the pins with small bolts epoxied in. Then just use nuts to keep the boot attached.

I think that is what I will have to do. At lunch I too it off and all but 3 of the pegs are broken and only one clip in sight.

I also took some heavy duty weedeater line and ran it through my drains, cleared them right up and the water drained out.

The weedeater line's a good idea; it's longer than a coathanger, and less likely to make holes.

Thanks DD, well it was your prodding with a coathanger comment that made me think that maybe was not a good idea afterall. I probably could have done some damage to my tubes with the hanger.
