shift whenever it quits making good horsepower, I would think 6k is awful early. I usually shift around 7500 to 8k.

depends on what kinda driving I am doing...when I am wimpy, I shift 4000-4500k...when I want spunk, 6000k...and ...I am told you need to red-line the car every once and a while. It odes the car good, if the engine is in good shape to begin with...If you want the "mazda" factory shift points, get a owners manual. ...cjf

the few times I've driven a 1st gen (it was a 12A though, 1978 GS), I shifted at 7200-7500RPM, but that one didn't make good power anywhere :)

I shift once i hear the buzzer go off which is at about 7000

well my car if i pass over 6k, it fell like is dragging. i think is because the power steering.

If I were you I would disconnect the power steering. My se has a power steering pump that is broken. I think I can feel the road better. It's a pain though if you parallel park.

Are you guys talking strictly about racing? What about normal city driving?
