Shift!!!

I am wonder if I need something new to make my shifts more easyer and smoother. I know that some suggest a shifter bushing kit but, i can not find one. Could if be the tranny thats going or, how about the clutch? any help would be appreciated, thanks

Don't know if this will help or not, but I used to run a 50/50 solution of gear lube/auto tranny fluid in my Z car. This was recommended in the book "How to hotrod and race your datsun" and was race proven. The theory is that the detergents in the auto tranny fluid help to keep the syncros free from debris and improve shifting. When I first tried it, there was a noticeable difference in shifting after about 50 miles of driving...

I have not tried this in my 7 yet because I have not done anything to the tranny so far (not even a fluid change) and it seems to work fine right now. But when I do get around to changing the tranny fluid I will certainly go with the 50/50 mix again. Good luck...

I had humongous trouble shifting when I first got my 7. Sometimes the clutch would stick and I couldn't even shift. It didn't take me long to notice that I had a leaky clutch cylinder and I was practically out of fluid. Adding fluid obvioiusly fixed that problem.

But I did have trouble shifting gears, especially while downshifting. The dog teeth didn't seem to want to mesh and it took some effort to get it into the gate. After I changed my tranny fluid and used a few additives, it worked much better. So before you start replacing things, I'd suggest changing your tranny fluid and maybe putting in some transmission fix stuff too.

Its funny.. I am learning how to drive still. (standard) I will do the flush and fill today, if it keeps up I am going to have to dig deeper.

As far a typeing slow get Mcbevis typeing tutor or something like that. thanks for ya help. I will write back soon and let ya know if the shifting issues still persist

well my dumb arse finally finished the fuild transfer,, it took me 2 days..lol

Now the car shifts smooth from 1st to 2nd however the rest are still a pain. I wonder if I need a new clutch or shifter.. anyone know? or is smooth shift out of the question for my tired old car?

Hey, I was serious about adding the automatic tranny fluid in a 50/50 mix. If a simple fluid change didn't help I'd really give it a shot. It did wonders for my Z....

that may help you out, it helped me, especially the double-clutching when downshifting
