whats up everybody im 16 now and ive been workin on my 7 for about a year and a half if been doing numerous things ive customized the whole interior and so now i started workin on the exterior and personally i thought some stuff had to go including the back bumper. this is the third atempt on doing the back bumper the first cracked the second one i got rear ended and completely ruined it and this is the third my pride and joy tell me what you think of it so far right now its primed up. eventuly im shaving the door handles mirrors basicly every thing so it will be completely smooth. im also in the middle of molding a civic front bumper on i will get pics on that when im closer to completion on it but for now i basicaly want a thumbs up or thumbs down on the shaved back bumper so far!!!

cool, but i wanna see the civic front bumper because i don't know how that could ever look good...honda parts??? what the hell??? i like the rear ( or lack thereof ) bumper though
Thumbs up on the rear bumper :bigthumb: thumbs down on the civic front bumper
Looks good. Did you fill it all in with bondo or marglass? Or did you weld in some metal?
i welded in supports or a frame system and tacked in sheet metal, grined it down then used a body filler to get ride of the holes and to smooth it out.
as for the front i will get the pics up soon |
thats cool
yeah that looks great.....what color u gonna end up painting it?
nice is all I have to say
hmm i may have to do that on my red car to get rid of extra weight of the back bumper
ive completley hacked the car, its prolly weighs like 1850 |
awesome, especially from a 16 year old, i wish i could do that.

Looks good. I considered this at one point, but decided I couldn't risk the parking lot dings. Here's my alternative for the smooth look without the risk. The front is a Mariah piece. In both cases, I back-filled the black bumper area then sanded the outer surface smooth.
The rear looks sweet. To hell with a honda front end. I'd like to see a RX-8 front end on it, that would look pretty sweet.
Elwood: can we get some pics of your whole car? I like how you removed the black moulding from the whole car, even the bumper. It looks better than just painting over it like most people do. I was going to get my mouldings painted gloss black, but seeing that makes me think twice about it.
Anyway, I like the rear bumper. I wish I could do that! I would try but I would probably end up messing it up badly. I am also interested in how this honda front end will look. I have seen a body kit for an FD on a frist gen before and I thought it looked ok, too ricey for my tastes though. |

thanks for all of your postive feedback. and yeah shaving that bumper out lost me a lot of weight in the rear probably around 50 lbs or so. as for color i think im gunna go with a super bright pearl white. unless some one could give me a good color for an rx-7. and i got pictures of the front that im workin on and yeah its a civic front bumper but ive been moding it to fit so you cant really tell. By the way its just sitting on there right now im still trying to fab up a frame to bolt it to. i know it looks a little rugged right now but when im done it should look pretty good. well here it is so what you think. so give me a thumbs up or thumbs down on the front and rear thanks
Im gunna try to get some better angles tommarow https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...id=68633&stc=1 https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...id=68634&stc=1 |
anyone got a picture of the rearend before the work, with the bumper off? I wanna see how much is invovled in shaving the rear.
is that the whole bumper or just the cover? |
personally i hated the molding as well so what i did is kinda pried off the edge of it and then just pulled on it like there was no tommarow then to get the glue and everything else that stayed on i came back with a razor blade and slowly and carefully scraped it all off. then came back with a fine grit sand paper and smoothed it all out then painted over it. i will get pictures of that tommarow as well. hope that helps

The Honda bumper actually looks pretty good.
its just a stock honda bumper i had lying around and i wanted to give my seven an updated curvey look. all the front air dams you can order for the first gen just are to boxey for my taste. but if this civic bumper works out like i plan it to it will give my car a lil spunk that is deserves
i started the rear about two weeks ago. but like i said its the third one ive built. as long as you know what your doing its pretty easy. and i do have a picture with the bumper off but it might take me a while to find it. i can say if you really want to know go take your bumper off it should only take you about 10 min to get it off

Woooo! you did a very good job on the back. I looks like some model porsche to me.
the rear bumper rules, its a huge improvement over the original, i'm not a big fan of the front though, i know its not finished yet, but are planning on shaving the sides so they don't stick out as much?
okay actually when im finished with it and it all goes as planed its going to be tucked inside the front fenders and be smoothed in. so it will look like it is stock. in other words you wont be able to tell that it doesnt belong. fingers crossed
