Seized Locks, Remote Power Locks The Answer?
Hey guys,
So a couple of days have passed with my '85 GS and apart from a few small issues, she runs perfect. Very happy! However, one problem is the locks, both the passenger and drivers side are seized. I tried all the tricks to free them up, but apart from once or twice being about to lock the passenger door (not open) there toast. Replacement locks looks like an expensive option so I had an idea of buying a cheap remote power lock kit. Question is, any guys on the forum with a gen 1 installed one of these kits? I am trying to figure out the best way to mount the actuator and if anyone has any thoughts/tips about this. Thanks in advance.... Rick |
One of my rules that I always try not to break is; "don't ever try to accommodate a problem, rather than fixing the problem".
I would look in the for sale section (or post a want to buy thread) looking for door locks with a key. Good luck either way... :) . |
What have you tried so far to unsieze them? When mine get sticky, I shoot them with brake cleaner to flush the old crap out of them, them relube them with a spray graphite or white lithium grease. If you think they have rusted inside, try PB Blaster.

Very good idea... I've never dealt with a locksmith before, but its good to know that they can do things like that. :)

Excellent points guys, locksmith will be my first port of call, not sure why I didn't think of that.
